Commercial Actuarial Strategic Development (CASD) is seeking an experienced econometrician or statistician who specializes in time-series analysis. In this role, the person will join other experienced modelers and actuaries to build cutting-edge econometric models to study how the broader economy impacts frequency and severity trends in all major commercial lines of business, and to support the Loss Analytics and Reserving organization in a range of new and ongoing research projects. This role will provide regular interactions with our business partners (Actuarial, Product, Underwriting, etc.) and CASD leadership. Given Travelers- leading market position in commercial lines, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with one of the largest datasets and one of the most brilliant teams in this industry. As a member of the commercial R&D group, the person will also enjoy the support and development opportunities provided by the R&D Center of Excellence at Travelers. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Define and perform advanced statistical analyses to explain economic phenomena-s impact on insurance.
Explore, develop, and apply new methodology and algorithms to challenging business problems in trend detection and forecasting.
Proactively stay abreast of cutting-edge economic and time-series modeling methods and applications.
Analyze/interpret data, draw business inferences, and provide advice and consultation on economic relationships to business partners.
Provide consultations to others across the enterprise on econometric modeling methodology.
Drive the collaboration and development of Center of Excellence on econometric modeling at Travelers.
Lead and participate multiple research and analytics projects simultaneously.
Support the strategy directing and managing projects, people or innovation streams.
Work within broad limits and authority on complex assignments requiring specialized knowledge in breadth and/or depth in area of expertise which may be on or more of the following:
-Advanced statistical analyses
-Actuarial and/or research methods
-Broad business knowledge
-In-depth Line of Business knowledge
-Broader awareness of enterprise Analytics & Research community

EDUCATION/COURSE OF STUDY:
Advanced degree in statistics, mathematics, economics, finance, actuarial science, computer science or equivalent with typically 7 to 9 years of relevant work experience preferred.
Relevant work experience should be in directing and performing research and/or advanced analytic work (e.g. predictive modeling) in the insurance industry.
Computer Proficiency: Ability to read/revise/review a statistical software program (e.g. R, SAS, SPSS); Ability to create advanced programs from scratch.
