Sr. Engineer - Mechanical

Job Description:

The Sr. Engineer – Mechanical is responsible for projects in the finishing area of the plant and related activities. Most of the specific projects that involve Capex are directly under the control of the engineering department. Projects that fall under plant expense can also involve the engineering department. Appropriation requests are managed by the engineering department and fall under this job position. Job site safety planning and compliance tracking, for projects that are managed by the engineering department, fall under this job position. All requests by plant operations for assistance with technical issues related to the process, equipment, buildings and facilities within the finishing area are handled by this position.

Job Duties:

• Manage Capital and Mill Expense projects.

• Lead cross-functional teams in the implementation of Major Capital Improvement Projects and facility rehabilitations.

• Provide in-depth technical advice, complex calculations, evaluations and other assistance as required by management, operations, maintenance or other technical teams.

• Control, review, monitor and direct major project cost control, implementation schedule, construction schedule, project safety and all reporting activities for major capital improvement and rehabilitation projects.

• Coordinate, review and evaluate the design and drawing preparation and material procurement activities required to meet major construction and rehabilitation project requirements.

• Coordinate and direct conceptual engineering, project scope definition, capital appropriation request development and facility infrastructure projects for major projects.

• Maintain an extensive knowledge of the Hot Strip Mill and/or Finishing Mill equipment, process and procedures to allow for solid judgment in making decisions regarding technology improvements to the facility.

• Develop investment files using the Capital Investment Projects Methodology (CIPM) format as required for all Capital projects.

Minimum Education Requirements:

• Engineering degree with a background in project development, equipment design, procurement, construction/start-up and/or maintenance.

• 8-10 years of technical related engineering experience in heavy manufacturing environment.

Minimum Requirements:

• Extensive engineering experience with Major Capital and R & M projects in heavy industry

• 8-10 years of experience in project management of Major Capital Projects in heavy industry

• Extensive experience with heavy equipment, operations and maintenance in an industrial situation.

• Extensive experience with major project scheduling and project cost control

Preferred Requirements:

• Extensive engineering experience (Mechanical and/or Electrical) with Major Capital and R & M projects in the steel industry

• 10-15 years of experience in project management of Major Capital Projects in the steel industry

• Extensive experience with all steel making and/or finishing equipment, operations and maintenance.

• Extensive experience with major project scheduling and project cost control
