Allegheny Valley Hospital in Natrona Heights has long been known for providing the highest quality medical care available. The 228-bed hospital serves as the inpatient facility and offers a broad spectrum of programs, including medical and surgical services, inpatient psychiatric care and geriatric psychiatric care, cardiology, orthopedics and cancer care. Outpatient care is offered at outpatient care centers throughout the community in New Kensington, Natrona Heights and Vandergrift, all providing a range of diagnostic services.
Job Summary : Independently works to perform routine and special procedures on patient issue specimens. Assists lab management with the daily operation of the department.
Receives, properly records, and accessions specimens of tissues from surgical or diagnostic cases
Performs variety of duties including tissue fixation techniques, processing, embedding, sectioning, routine and special staining, and immunohistochemistry
Operates, calibrates, checks and maintains instrumentation. Troubleshoots problems with quality control and test procedures and takes appropriate action to ensure quality clinical information.
Communicates effectively with management and coworkers concerning the needs of the laboratory for efficient laboratory operations.
Serves as a consultant to histology technicians and other health care providers as needed.
Participates in continuing education to ensure growth and development of the laboratory and encourages employee development by providing growth/learning opportunities.
Performs gross examination of tissue
Maintains and monitors department; emphasizes safety, customer service, efficient workflow, and regulatory compliance.
Develops techniques to ensure effective, economical and efficient use of equipment, supplies, and facility
Provides direction to employees according to established policies and management guidance
Associates degree in ASCP eligible program or equivalent. Meet ongoing education requirements for certification.
HT (ASCP) or eligible.
5 years clinical histology experience required.
Supervisory experience preferred.
