The Sr. Manager, Application Services is responsible for the design, development and support of Gilead’s Portal, Collaboration and Mobility technology offering. The candidate will be responsible for helping with the formulation and execution on a business capability enabled roadmap providing portal based and mobile capabilities across the organization globally.

The candidate will be responsible for managing a global team with staff possibly outside of North America and will have responsibilities to ensure that the operational support commitments are constantly being measured and met in accordance with Service Level Agreements. Candidate will be responsible for and all aspects of Change and Release Management are defined and adhered to when releasing new system capabilities into production.

The candidate possess strong communication and customer service skills with the ability to stay on task when working independently and as part of a global team. Must be able to organize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment and mentor others within the team.

Essential Duties and Job Functions:
  • Manage the web services group and oversee web strategy and operations.
  • Assist in the development of the vision and strategic plans for PC&M at Gilead.
  • Directs the development of websites and web applications for many departments across the organization and looks to increase internal and external collaboration within the organization.
  • Develops best practices/framework for managing portal communities, collaboration spaces and mobile applications strategies.
  • Assists our Business IT organization with the development of business cases, cost/effort estimates and owns the delivery of approved PC&M initiatives.
  • Works with internal team to rationalize existing custom applications and when necessary retrofit applications into future state architecture and ensure scalability is aligned with company growth.
  • Ensures reliable operation of web services, including prompt reaction to, and resolution of, production problems and clear, timely communication of special circumstances to the affected constituencies.
  • Be the subject matter expert on developing web technologies and best practices in the fields of web design, development, security, and accessibility.
  • Fosters collaboration and ideation within the team to proactively develop and refine existing strategies and increase utilization of technical capabilities to solve complex business problems.
  • Propose suitable solutions to meet business needs and provide risk/return analyses, with input from other impacted IT / Business areas, for final solution recommendations
  • Partner with business liaisons to ensure business capabilities are being, prioritized and implemented according to approved plans and business need.
  • Ensure that approved IT projects are in line with the overall strategic roadmap and are architected in a manner that will scale to the growth of the company.
  • Oversees operational activities of the application stack with specific attention at ensuring HA of the infrastructure while focusing on delivering value to the business in a repeatable manner.
  • To act as 2nd/3rd line support for problems and work with local resources and the IT helpdesk to resolve issues to agreed SLA’s
  • Work with various outsourcing/offshore firms to manage application maintenance and support activities and ensure 24x7 support when necessary.
Knowledge, Experience and Skills:
The applicant should be capable of providing guidance and support for the rollout and support of CRM (i.e. Veeva) and Pricing/Contract (Model N) related Applications. This position will work with our Business IT organization to anticipate future information needs and incorporate them into our design/release process.

  • Job experience working within and managing a Portal & Collaboration team
  • Strong understanding of Oracle and Sharepoint underlying architecture and deployment methodologies.
  • Understanding of HTML 5 and the emergence of mobile application development strategies and techniques.
  • Ability to understand how to integrate with other Enterprise applications within an organization.
  • Exposure to working in a cloud based SaaS model.and ability to identify opportunities for SaaS.
  • Ability to translate user requirements into functional IT systems
  • Strong understanding of Security & Compliance Regulations (i.e. SOX, GxP, etc) and how these impact design and implementation of business capabilities.

Expereince
  • 8+ years IT experience
  • 3+ years experience working in the portal and collaboration arena.
  • Previously held at least one position with experience in managing staff and career development
  • Previous experience rolling out portal based technologies across the enterprise.
  • Ability to work directly with business partners and end users to generate consensus around technical directions that align with addressing business problems.
  • Ability to analyze complex business problems and evaluate solutions
  • Must think strategically and must be able to balance between configuration and custom development.
  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field
  • Experience in the Biopharmaceutical experience is strongly preferred.
  • Good written, and oral communication skills, time management, planning and project management skills
