This position is located in West Monroe, LA . The twin cities of West Monroe and Monroe are conveniently located between Jackson, MS and Shreveport, LA on Interstate 20 in Northern Louisiana. Monroe is home to the University of Louisiana Monroe. The facility is also a short 30 minute drive from Louisiana Tech University, located in Ruston, LA, offering degree programs and further education opportunities in most technical and engineering disciplines.
MISSION / SUMMARY: As the assistant superintendent this position has oversight for day to day paper manufacturing operations, production improvement, and ensures the operational efficiency and safe operation.
JOB FUNCTION: Provide Technical expertise in working with Operations, Customer Services; Sales and Marketing as appropriate, on specific performance parameters specific Product lines. The position will oversee the lead and optimization of other productivity, quality and cost critical to quality customer needs. Participates with Maintenance / Operations to coordinate maintenance items and assist in planning monthly maintenance items.
Responsibilities: As acting assistant superintendent directly supervise approximately 20 production unionized shift employees in the daily production of a large pulp and paper mill. Plans, and controls production performance against operating targets. Provide strong leadership and teamwork to make a quality product while ensuring a safe and efficient operation. Coordinate on-shift work orders and routine maintenance.
Ensures safe and clean work area, reviews daily production data. Analyzes production and operations issues and Initiates maintenance work. Coordinates and directs operations and maintenance personnel.
Key person in outage planning and operational scheduling. Analyzes weekly and monthly downtime and production. Monitors departmental cost and develops capital project scope and budget. Prepares yearly cost and production budgets.
Responsible for training of hourly personnel. Must be able to assume the responsibilities of the Superintendent in their absence.
Completes month end closing activities and GR’s.
BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:
10 years experience in paper manufacturing.
3-5 years of supervisory experience in manufacturing, preferably paper/pulp industry.
EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:
Degreed engineer or equivalent experience (Pulp and Paper Science)
SAP experience preferred.
