Position Description

This position is responsible for achieving successful implementation of strategic product development programs utilizing the Product Development Process (PDP). Ensures best-in-class product development practice as a competitive advantage for the business. The Core Team Leader is responsible for: leading cross-functional teams in the successful development of products that are required to support the strategic plan; leading development and implementation of best practices in product development; implementing and creating training/tools, metrics, and communication. The Core Team Leader is accountable for developing and executing against team contracts and ensuring team commitments are met and communicated in a timely manner. Contributes to the Product Review Committee through timely reporting of the projects underway and recommends strategies for executive management review and decision making around priorities in planning for enterprise-wide resources, revenues, as well as customer, market, and internal impacts.

Position Responsibilities

Accountable to the Product Review Committee and PMO Leader for overall program execution. Works to establish a competitive advantage for all new product introduction programs and projects that are part of an overall product portfolio.
Leads PDP cross-functional teams through successful completion of the phase review process. Maintains and executes the phase schedule. Drives the quality and completion of phase review presentations, and all deliverables. Provides leadership to resolve action items initiated at phase reviews.
Uses leadership skills to ensure that cross-functional resources are assigned and held accountable for task and outcome completion.
Ensures that products are launched on time and meet established goals and objectives (per project contract) that support the financial and competitive goals of the organization.
Manages projects within portfolio and makes commitments to meet specific business goals and objectives.
Manages and tracks project budget with components that include human resources, prototypes, suppliers, and general expenses to meet established return on investments per project.
Provides the communication link between the project team and the PMO Office Leader.
Ensure team deliverables are in compliance with the PDP and good product development practices, and meet the PRC’s expectations.
Coaches team members to ensure process adherence and effective project management, utilizing best practice project management skills, as well as framing and resolving issues through the PDP and best practices.
Coaches team members to ensure effective team dynamics and mutual accountability are paramount.
Guides and assist the program management group in PDP continuous improvement initiatives.
Directs initiatives to identify, prioritize, define, and implement improvements to the product development processes to achieve best-in-class status.
Provides partnership and feedback to the project managers and project analysts.
Collaborates with Training and Development to provide project and team training to core teams.
Provides feedback to functional department heads during performance reviews, and the AOP/strategic planning process.

Basic Qualifications

EDUCATION REQUIRED:
BA/BS in an engineering discipline, required

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE
. 7 years+ technical job experience in product development.
5 years+ direct project management job experience.

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
Project management experience in a leadership capacity. Possesses in-depth knowledge of the product development phase review process in the medical industry (medical device, preferred)

Desired/Preferred Qualifications

Masters in engineering, technical discipline, or MBA, preferred.
9 years experience in the medical device or related industry, preferred
Proven leader with demonstrated expertise in devising and implementing streamlined processes and strategic programs to improve efficiency, timeliness, and productivity while reducing costs and growing revenue
Demonstrated track record of leading within complex organizations requiring strong influence management skills.
Change agent -- willingness and ability to lead and institute change
Experience working in product development, including clear understanding of the roles and responsibilities of cross- functional project teams and functional management.
Strong project management skills; knowledge of process and project planning best practices.
Financial planning skills -- able to establish and manage project budgets within guidelines.
Influence management skills; ability to work cooperatively at all levels in matrix environment to build and maintain the positive relationships required to accomplish organizational goals.
Excellent communication skills and interpersonal/team effectiveness -- ability to succinctly and accurately communicate to various levels of management and employees.
Business acumen; ability to think and act from an overall “best for the business” perspective.
Demonstrates initiative; results oriented; strong sense of urgency.
Strong analytical, planning, organization and time management skills to effectively develop and execute comprehensive programs and budgets.
Effective decision making skills -- ability to negotiate and balance decisions and priorities across needs of several functional departments and willingness to make tough decisions. Makes timely decisions in the face of risk and uncertainty.
