GENERAL PURPOSE:
This position will be part of a multi-disciplinary asset team charged with managing SM Energy’s Operated Eagle Ford assets in South Texas. Under limited review, this individual handles reservoir engineering assignments of broad scope and a wide range of technical difficulty; coordinates efficient exploitation of reserves and project execution in assigned areas. Candidates must have the ability to communicate and function on a cross functional (multi-disciplinary) team assigned to an operated project.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:
Identify, evaluate technical and economic merits, and make recommendations on oil and gas investment opportunities

Identify new plays by monitoring competitor leasing, permitting and development activity and studying associated geological and engineering reports

Work with geoscientists and petro physicists to interpret and analyze static and dynamic wells, geologic and seismic data to develop reservoir characterization models

Conduct internal reserve and economic evaluation of acquisition, drilling, recompletion and workover opportunities

Perform comprehensive economic analysis including risk and profitability for project or acquisition AFE’s and recommend course of action

Coordinate the creation of AFE’s to execute development plans

Perform field and reservoir studies of existing assets to determine near and long term development plans which may include secondary and tertiary recovery operations

Provide estimations of resource volumes and recoverable hydrocarbons using both probabilistic and deterministic methods for resource and exploration opportunities

Present recommendations and justifications to management regarding approvals to acquire leases and develop them

Identify recompletion, workover, remedial, enhancement and optimization opportunities in support of the Production Engineer throughout the life of the resource

Participate in the development and implementation of growth strategies

Prepare annual and mid-year reserve reports by:
o Complying with guidelines and standards contained in the corporate “Reserves Manual”
o Forecasting production annually and at mid-year for all reserve classes
o Scheduling capital and incorporating updated operating costs associated with the forecast in support of corporate management

Train and develop less experienced engineers and technical support personnel

Conduct business with the highest ethical standards; demonstrate decision-making skills that ensure the safety of all persons associated with SM facilities

Other duties as assigned

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:
B.S. degree in Petroleum (preferred), Mechanical or Chemical Engineering is required

Minimum of 8 years of applicable engineering experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Proficient level of skill in Microsoft Office

Knowledge of Aries or other economic evaluation software programs

Experience with industry/company software including: AFEN, Fekete, OFM, Wellview, AVM & Data Cube training is a plus

Advanced knowledge and practical application of volumetric calculations, decline curve reserve determinations, appropriate analogue techniques and material balance assessments

Experience with stimulation and reservoir modeling is a plus

Solid understanding of engineering economic evaluations

Experience with conventional oil and gas reservoirs and unconventional resource plays. Secondary recovery, horizontal development and EOR experience is a plus

Experience with a variety of reservoir types, depletion scenarios and development scenarios

Driven, organized and detail oriented

Strong project management skills and the ability to advance multiple projects simultaneously; takes a multi-disciplinary approach to projects

Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment

Excellent communication skills including: written, verbal and formal presentation

Applies specialized knowledge in the completion of projects

Actively transfer knowledge to colleagues and management

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Periodic field visits
