Sr. Software Release Manager
Candidates will work with business units across the company administering builds and releases for eCommerce websites. Must be able to work handson and have excellent knowledge of technology as well as an ability to build realationships and communicate effectively with all organizations. Must have software configuration management experience using Team Foundation Server (TFS) in a .net Framework and have release management knowledge using SharePoint workflow in an Agile Scrum development environment.
The Senior Software Release Manager works to improve/accelerate the software release process through both technical and process solutions. The principal business outcome for this position is to ensure the effective and timely release of functional software in order to help enhance the digital business.This position works under general supervision, interacting with his or her supervisor several times per week to receive guidance and feedback. Some non-routine activities will require a supervisor's advance approval.
Partner with multiple delivery teams to define and improve the release process of software releases through the environment chain ensuring no technical cross dependency issues exist for the release.
Create or find effective alternatives/solutions if any dependency issues exist within a release.
Ensure adherence to Release Management (RM) processes for all releases (both tooling, and manual process items), by developing and documenting consistent and repeatable RM processes for all stakeholders and management; includingnot just production releases but releases though the Continuous Integration (CI), Development, Quality Assurance (QA) and other environments prior to a production release.
Work with existing tools and create new tools to effectively release the software. Partner with engineering to build up the environment chain in order to ensure efficient processes across project delivery teams.
Ensure that releases are traceable and that only correct, authorized and or tested versions are installed in each controlled environment.
Work with Software Configuration Management (SCM) to build up an effective CI release process and associated tool chain; including associated tool work needed to integrate automated tests into the process.
Ensure effective releases to all production and non-production environments.
Establish, document and communicate the release process and standard tool usage.
At least 5-10 years of release management or software development experience in a Microsoft.Net framework required.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited program in Computer Science or related field and/or equivalent year-for-year experience required.
At least 5-10 years of experience with Software Configuration Management tools required; Team Foundation Server (TFS) is required; Subversion and Git are highly preferred as well.
At least 5-10 years of experience with Release Management tools (SharePoint workflow, etc.) required.
At least 5-10 years of experience administering builds and releases for eCommerce websites (web and server environments).
Experience executing RM and CM processes in an Agile, Scrum development environment preferred
Demonstrated Microsoft Build Scripting knowledge.
Proficient understanding of the Global Assembly Cache, .Net Assemblies, Web Services, Windows Services, Windows Communication Foundation, IIS, C#, VB. NET , XML and .NET Platform.
Working understanding of Windows Server 2008 operating system and its security.
Proficienct with SQL Server 2005/2008 (including admin functions like backups and reports) and Microsoft Visual Studio 2008/2010.
Experience with Hyper-V virtual environment administration is preferred.
Ability to manage builds to meet the needs of an Agile culture.
Ability to assertively solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Demonstrated capacity for gathering and scrutinizing data to identify issues, opportunities, patterns, and sustainable business solutions.
Proficient ability to communicate effectively with others using written and spoken English including the ability to provide clear, constructive feedback to team members.
