The candidate for this position will be responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating and directing the skilled trades department of Farmingdale State College Physical Plant. This department consists of carpentry, lock shop, masonry, plumbing, electrical and HVAC. The manager will ensure that all work is completed in an efficient, economical and safe manner. The position will also manage and coordinate with; outside vendors, provide oversight of construction and renovation within the trade areas, ability to effectively plan maintenance services programs (ie: preventive maintenance) , supervise field and shop maintenance activities, maintain effective records, knowledge of related trade equipment and tools is a must. The ideal candidate will be a strong thinker with the organizational and interpersonal skills to work in a facilities environment. The candidate must also be able to work under pressure and be able to manage effectively under emergency situations.
Strong knowledge of the principles, practices, codes, operation and maintenance of buildings; energy management systems, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry and masonry work.
Knowledge of budgeting, capital planning and procurement.
Knowledge of staff management including hiring, training, and performance monitoring of department personnel.
An Associates Degree in Engineering or closely related field
Five years work experience in a facility setting.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or closely related field and 10 years work experience in a educational facility setting.
This is a full-time position.
