The research associate will work for a group of investigators working on research projects related to the quality and outcomes of health care in older persons. Major projects on which the research associate will work include multidisciplinary research on medication prescribing practices and outcomes for elderly veterans, and other studies evaluating the quality of medication prescribing in older adults.

The incumbent will be responsible for a variety of key functions, including regulatory compliance, assistance with budgeting and grants management, recruiting study participants, clinical chart review and study participant interviews, supervising project personnel, and overseeing the implementation of research project plans.

Essential Functions:
  • Assist Principal Investigators in implementing day-to-day research activities
  • Prepare and submit IRB applications and renewals
  • Assist with accounting duties, including grant account reconciliation, budget projection preparation, and purchase order preparation and placement
  • Assist with all aspects of pre- and post-award grant management, including document preparation and submission
  • Perform as communications liaison between research team and VA/NCIRE administration
  • Perform library and Internet searches on medical, scientific, statistical and other topics
  • Assist with data entry and database management
  • Assist with manuscript preparation and submission, as well as Power Point presentations
  • Assist with project management
  • Abstract data from clinical charts for chart review studies
  • Conduct participant interviews
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS in social or biological sciences or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge and experience with word-processing and database software (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Endnote)
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and experience with major literature databases (e.g. PubMed or PsycInfo) highly desirable
  • Strong oral/written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
