The Disney DTSS Engineering group in Seattle develops internet applications and services for all the domestic and international businesses and brands across The WALT Disney Company. Our business partners include ESPN, ABC, Disney Internet Media Group, Disney Studios, and Walt Disney Parks & Resorts.

This Staff level engineering role is part of the Media Systems Engineering group and is responsible for designing and developing solutions for Messaging Systems, including email, SMS, and Mobile Push. This role requires a strong object oriented coding background, experience with databases and big data, solid design skills, and a passion for technology in the mobile and media space.

Job responsibilities include architecture, design, and coding. Requires the ability to work comfortably both as a technical lead of a development team and as an individual contributor as part of a development team.
This role will work closely with other engineers in the department and engineering teams across the organization, as well as with other groups including Technical Operations, Product Management, PMO, and multiple customer groups across the company.

Basic Qualifications
  • 7+ years of software development experience
  • Proficiency in object oriented design and Java programming (or other object-oriented languages)
  • Strong understanding of internet protocols and technologies
  • Experience developing high-performance and high-scalability internet applications and services
  • Experience with RDBMS and NoSQL data storage technologies desired
  • Experience working with rich media and developing rich media applications desired
  • Experience developing mobile websites and applications desired
  • Experience working collaboratively using agile software development process
  • Ability to work both individually and as part of a team
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Self-motivated, proactive, curious, responsible and flexible
Preferred Qualifications
  • B.S. Computer Science / Computer Engineering
