I. Position Summary:

The Stationary Engineer operates and maintains steam-generating and air-conditioning equipment in compliance with Denver building code and manufacturer’s recommendations. ¨

Operate and maintain steam-generating, air-conditioning and distribution systems in compliance with Denver code. ¨

Observe and adjust equipment as necessary to maintain a comfortable environment. ¨

Regulate equipment to maximize energy savings. ¨

Test water and fuel, adjust chemical treatment, and perform preventive maintenance to keep readings at desired levels and extend life of equipment. ¨

Record readings, work requests and phone inquiries to provide a constant record of operations. ¨

Performs safety inspections of equipment to comply with City codes and medical center regulations. ¨

Answers Engineering phones as required. ¨

Keep Plant and equipment clean and serviceable.

II. Position Requirements:

A. Licensure/Certification/Registration: ¨

Current Stationary Engineer certificate issued by the City and County of Denver Building Inspection Division.

B. Education:

C. Experience: ¨

4 years experience high pressure boiler and mechanical refrigeration systems operation.

D. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: ¨

Ability to operate and repair steam-generating and air-conditioning systems and supporting equipment. ¨

Ability to perform preventive maintenance and appropriate testing procedures. ¨

Ability to assess and promptly respond to mechanical failures. ¨

Ability to interact with medical center personnel and outside services and inspectors.

Equipment List:

1. Boilers, chillers, pumps, water softeners.

2. Valves, gauges, thermostat controls.

3. Flow hood, microsonic stethoscope, tachometer, volunteer.

4. Miscellaneous hand tools for equipment repairs.

III. Degree of Supervision Required: ¨

Performs essential functions without constant supervision; alerts supervisor to problem areas and unusual events. ¨

Supervisor examines total steam-generating and HVAC system for efficient operation and energy conservation; evaluates Stationary Engineer’s performance.

IV. Orientation Period:

90 days. May be modified at the discretion of the manager.
