The purpose of the statistician/data manager position is to (1) manage the clinical and specimen databases, (2) analyze data for several ongoing studies evaluating the morbidity and mortality associated with HIV-associated pneumonias and the lung microbiome of HIV-infected and HIV-uninfected individuals, and (3) assist with preparing the data for presentation/publication. The incumbent will also generate regular reports on the state of each study’s data, coordinate regular data cleaning and updating activities with team members of the various projects, and assist with maintaining CHR approval. As all of the studies are locally and internationally based, the incumbent will regularly interact with an international team of project collaborators.

Required Qualifications
• BA/BS with a major in statistics or a related field and two years of professional statistical experience;
• Knowledge of several statistical programs including STATA, SAS, RedCap, SQL, MS Access, and MS Excel is required to ensure the accuracy of study data, produce several databases for clinical and specimen management, produce relevant datasets for analysis, conduct data analysis, and prepare data for publication/presentation.
• Knowledge of statistical principles is needed to perform the appropriate statistical analysis.
• Knowledge of medical terminology with a focus on HIV-associated pneumonias and microbiome profiling is needed to work with the many study collaborators.
• Experience communicating effectively with colleagues from different cultures in order to facilitate research collaborations.

Preferred Qualifications
• Master’s degree in statistics, epidemiology, public health or a related field;
• Proficiency and experience with iMedRIS, UCSF’s online CHR submission and management system.
• Familiarity with UCSF Internet protocols (including standard disclaimer language) is needed to ensure that any required web site operates in compliance with University standards.
• Familiarity with UCSF/HIPAA requirements.
• Experience working in HIV/AIDS and/or pulmonary research.
• Proficiency and experience with iMedRIS, UCSF’s online CHR submission and management system.
• Experience working on international collaborations.
