The American Institutes for Research (AIR) is a leading professional services firm specializing in all aspects of education and other social policy issues. AIR is seeking a Statistician/Econometrician with expertise in econometric modeling to play a supporting role in our educational value-added analysis team. This team analyzes longitudinal microdata to assess system and educator impact on student outcomes including test scores, attendance, graduation, attitudinal measures, and others. Estimates are used for research, evaluation, and performance management on the part of states and school districts.
This position is located at our corporate offices in Washington, D.C.
The ideal candidate will have expertise in econometrics, fixed and random effects models, seemingly unrelated regression, survival analysis, time series, Bayesian estimation and robust variance estimation. More specifically, the candidate should 1) understand the statistical models and assumptions currently used in value added models (VAM); 2) have the ability to review/critique and explain the assumptions of these models; 3) have the ability to develop and implement VAM models, including understanding of programming requirements. We seek Statisticians/Econometricians with the skills to implement existing models, describe results of analyses and assist with training on the interpretation and use of the models.
The successful candidate will bring the ability to communicate findings from highly technical work clearly and accurately to non-technical audiences and contribute to the production of technical reports and other technical documents. The ideal candidate will possess strong writing skills and have the ability to discuss findings in public forums.
Qualified Candidates will have a Ph.D. in statistics, economics, or other related substantive area in the quantitative social sciences. We offer a salary commensurate with experience, plus excellent benefits. Some travel may be required.
