Under general supervision, responsible for cleaning, decontamination and/or sterilization of supplies and instruments for the operating room.
Reassembles and wraps instrument sets. Ensures proper use of sterilizes sonic cleaners and other related equipment. Thoroughly inspects instruments to insure all instruments are clean and in good repair/working order prior to sterilization process. Decontaminates/sterile equipment using proper chemical mixtures. Tests, operates and loads autoclaves. Maintains an inventory of sterile supplies, instrument packs and equipment; periodically checks sterile inventory in order to timely remove those items in which sterilization has expired; resterilization of out dated instrument packs. Performs administrative duties as assigned by supervisor.
One year experience as a Sterile Processing Technician OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
May be underfilled as a Sterile Processing Technician I -- Experience: Stable work record.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of maintenance and sterilization of medical supplies and equipment; of sanitation and hygiene; of proper safety practices of steam and gas sterilization; and of simple record-keeping principles and practices. Skill in following verbal and written instructions; and in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others.
Physical Requirements (with or without accommodation):
Must be able to climb, kneel, stoop and perform assigned duties under semi-stressful situations. Work is moderately heavy with lifting and carrying of objects. Considerable walking, standing, pushing and pulling of equipment.
