As a primary contact for customers, the Clerk provides friendly, courteous, and helpful service. Assists with the daily store functions such as customer service, cash transactions, maintaining inventory, and stocking and pricing merchandise. In the absence of the store manager, is responsible for closing procedures such as reconciling register and preparing deposits.

Essential Functions:
Prepare store for daily business by checking inventory and preparing cash register.

Complete and ensure that all sales are performed at register.

Sort, hang, and price clothing, jewelry and miscellaneous items.

Assist customers by answering store-related questions and complaints; notify manager of any concerns for resolution.

Answer store telephone and take messages or refer callers to the appropriate department or personnel.

Be alert for shoplifters and respond following established policy and procedures.

Receive donations and issue receipts.

Assist in the routine of maintaining cleanliness of the premises and notify manager of any safety or health hazards.

Communicate with warehouse regarding merchandise needs.

Perform other reasonably related business duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and other management as required.

Job Qualifications:
Minimum: Ability to read policy, procedures, manuals, instructions, safety journals and write at 9th grade level; ability to add and subtract two digit numbers, multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s; ability to perform cash transaction, make change and perform these operations using units of American money and weight; demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service and develop retail skills through actual experience and training.

Market: Combination of education and experience that would provide employee the skills and ability to work successfully in a retail setting; one year retail including register, stocking, etc. and excellent customer service.

Preferred: College course work in marketing or sales with two years experience in retail or a combination of four years in retail with demonstrated increased levels of responsibility such as register, opening or closing store, aware of current trends and styles. Excellent customer service.

Ability to maintain work schedule: arriving to work on time, working full shift and following policy for scheduling time off.

Self-starter, ability to identify and take initiative such as stocking racks, conducting inventory, etc.

Ability to work effectively with volunteers.

Thorough understanding of the organization’s Vision, Mission and CREED.

Highly developed interpersonal skills and highly effective in working objectively with a diverse group of people.

Team player willing to accept and promote organizational goals and function with minimal supervision.

Ability to make decisions based on education preparation and experience, which reflect consistency with organization philosophy, policies and procedures.
