Overview:

The Store Sales Leader is responsible for the efficient and profitable operation of the Store. The SSL specifically plans and directs, through the Store Management Team, all sales, operations, brand, and human resource functions of the Store. The SSL ensures that a strong selling and customer focus is maintained in the store at all times and that all of our customers have a great and compelling shopping experience. The SSL is also accountable for making critical decisions that contribute to growing the customer base and driving profitable sales growth. The SSL must demonstrate a thorough understanding of retail operations and be capable of speaking to the Store’s business activities, trends, key business metrics, customer profiles, market and competitive forces, visual and merchandise strategies and growth opportunities.

Responsibilities:

Builds Talent
  • Serves as a Brand Ambassador and role model for other associates
  • Recruits, interviews, and hires for all store positions.
  • Maintains optimal store staffing levels and schedules talent to maximize productivity
  • Ensures talent is properly onboarded and adequately trained
  • Ensures Associates use the Customer Engagement Sales & Service Model to exceed customer expectations
  • Supports the training and ongoing development of the Store Management Team
  • Ensures associate performance appraisals and compensation reviews are handled in a fair, timely, and consistent manner
  • Administers the Performance Management process in accordance with HR guidelines
  • Identifies, documents and resolves performance issues and policy violations according to company policy, in partnership with the DSL/ASL and applicable Brand Headquarters’ associates
  • Ensures compliance with all Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policies
  • Ensures efficient planning, coordination, follow-though and completion of tasks, which contribute to the achievement of store and company goals
  • Adjusts plans/directions/schedules when necessary and acts with a sense of urgency to meet changing priorities, store needs and the demands of the business
  • Ensures proper floor coverage and floor management to maximize store volume
  • Creates a store culture that is committed to exceeding customer’s expectations and delivering the highest level of customer service at all times
  • Ensures the execution of the company’s customer service policies
  • Ensures action is taken to achieve store sales goals and corrects negative sales trends
  • Ensures the maintenance of merchandise standards to maximize sales
  • Ensures that the sales floor is full, replenished and sized
  • Ensures the consistent achievement of key store metrics
  • Communicates customer feedback, best sellers, and recommendations to DSL/ASL
  • Uses company reports to analyze business results
  • Ensures the store maintains excellent visual presentation at all times, by presenting a fashion statement throughout the store
  • Ensures the achievement of company merchandise standards
  • Ensures the execution of the visual presentation direction and updates
  • Ensures compliance to the Company’s Brand Ambassador Dress Standards
  • Ensures the maintenance of a clean, neat, and organized store
  • Effectively promotes all Brand initiatives (Instant Credit, Reward, Email Capture Programs) and achieves all personal goals
Sales Generation

  • Ensures the store maintains excellent visual presentation at all times, by presenting a fashion statement throughout the store

  • Ensures the execution of the visual presentation direction and updates
  • Ensures compliance to the Company’s Brand Ambassador Dress Standards
  • Ensures the maintenance of a clean, neat, and organized store
  • Effectively promotes all Brand initiatives (Instant Credit, Reward, Email Capture Programs) and achieves all personal goals
Operational Excellence
  • Establishes and ensures compliance with the company Brand Operating Standards and the Execution Commitment Validation (ECV) process
  • Ensures compliance with all Company policies and procedures, including the New York & Company Code of Business Conduct
  • Leads the execution of inventories and maintains accurate inventory paperwork/records
  • Ensures the appropriate execution of merchandise handling procedures
  • Controls payroll and all other controllable expenses
  • Ensures the achievement of store shrink goals
  • Communicates inventory problems, markdowns, and trends to DSL/ASL
  • Ensures compliance to the Loss Prevention Guidelines
  • Ensures the adequate level of store supplies
  • Identifies and resolves store maintenance issues
  • Supervises the maintenance of store safety standards
  • Completes additional duties and projects as assigned

Qualifications:

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Three to four years retail experience, with at least two years of management experience
  • Solid business acumen and analytical skills, can confidently analyze and speak to the Store’s business
  • Strong selling and customer service orientation; ensures the customer is always a top priority
  • Excellent merchant skills, knowledgeable of our merchandise and confident making visual and merchandise decisions that cater to the Stores market and customer base.
  • Great Brand Ambassador, strong personal presence, passionate, fashionable, confident, poised, articulate, credible, professional and acts with integrity
  • Demonstrated proficiency in recruiting, training, sales generation, operations, and merchandising
  • Excellent talent selection and development skills
  • Excellent communication, delegation, follow-up, time-management, and analytical skills
  • Proven ability to multi-task and direct activities at all levels
  • Minimal travel required
  • Physical ability to be on sales floor for extended periods of time, and to move and handle merchandise and fixtures throughout the store, which may entail lifting, and perform all functions as set forth above
  • Ability to work varied hours/days, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed based on the needs of the business.

  • All job functions should be performed according to the appropriate organizational leadership and functional competencies

EDUCATION:
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent in work experience. BA/BS degree preferred
