The Director will serve as the champion to drive revenue growth from new product platforms and market opportunities, leveraging compelling consumer insights. This includes unearthing unmet needs of consumers and customers, identifying segments to target, developing strategies and value propositions, building and executing the business plan to achieve revenue and profitability targets as they pertain to new products and new markets. This individual will participate in, collaborate with, and often lead cross-functional teams including consumer insights, R&D, sales, manufacturing and supply chain teams to design and commercialize products for new markets by providing strategic marketing and business development guidance. Duties also include identifying and developing appropriate partnerships with new customers, value chain members, suppliers, and other manufacturers to provide new value in new markets. Create new product- and market-development plans. Contribute to the development of strategic and execution plans for various innovation platforms and projects. Understand the unmet needs of consumers and other members of the various value chains. Guide product- and technology-development efforts based on solid market understanding. Perform rigorous category and competitive analyses, segmentation, and targeting, using a variety of primary and secondary research. Articulate positioning and value propositions for new markets and for new products with a clear focus on end consumer benefits, total value across the entire value chain, product attributes/features, etc. Establish value and pricing versus competitive offerings. Develop volume and financial forecasts (pro-forma P&Ls). Recommend product- and market-specific plans that optimize corporate profitability. Coach staff and sales people on value-based selling of new products and collaborate on initial selling efforts. Work with consultants, outside agencies and suppliers, setting clear expectations about outcomes and costs. Assist in due diligence on M&A, JV, licensing, and other corporate development activities, as needed. WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED
10-12 years of consumer packaged goods industry experience in classical marketing/brand management. (Channel marketing, trade or customer marketing, sales, and ad agency experiences, though desirable add-ons to the brand marketing experiences, will not count towards the needed brand marketing requirement.) Ideal experience will be from marquee CPG companies in industries such as personal care, cosmetics, consumer electronics, entertainment, food and beverage, or healthcare. Extensive experience in new product and new business development. Must have proven success in bringing new products from ideation to commercialization. Sound understanding of marketing research including primary and secondary research as used in the CPG industry. MUST HAVE experience in interpreting and using marketing research to distill key consumer insights. Ability to compose multiple hypotheses, gather and interpret data, conduct critical assessments, and present clear, concise conclusions and strategic recommendations. Proven experience in developing strategy, forecasts, business plan, including detailed financial plan. Full understanding of P&L, including various financial statements is required. Experience must include catering to consumers via retail channels such as grocery, mass, club, department stores, consumer electronics, and a wide variety of specialty retail channels. Familiarity with the Stage Gate process is a plus. Superb communication and presentation skills. Confidence in working with and convincing a cross-section of people, including senior management.
