Structural Engineering Senior positions supervise and lead in the work of subordinates engaged in the review of proposed building designs to ensure compliance with codes and regulations pertaining to structural strength, sound insulation, fire resistance, life safety, and disabled access; conduct research and determine the acceptability of new materials and methods of construction; attend meetings and make presentations; prepare information bulletins; develop and write applicable codes; prepare reports and correspondence; and perform other duties as assigned. NOTES: · Structural Engineering Senior employees with valid State of California registration as a Professional Civil Engineer are eligible for 15% additional pay. · In addition to the above 15% pay, employees with valid State of California registration as a Professional Structural Engineer are eligible for 5% additional pay.
You must meet the following requirements on the date you apply, unless otherwise indicated. EXPERIENCE : Four years of full-time professional structural engineering experience in structural design or public agency structural plan checking, which must include ONE year of full-time professional journey-level experience at a level equivalent to a Structural Engineering Associate with the City of San Diego. NOTES: · The following experience does NOT qualify as professional structural engineering experience: Plan checks of residential one and two story additions, interior alterations, minor accessory structures, water or sewer structures, and construction inspection. · A Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis in structures may be substituted for a MAXIMUM of one year of the required experience. REGISTRATION : Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer or Structural Engineer with the State of California. CERTIFICATE : A valid International Code Council (ICC) Certificate as a Building Plans Examiner is required at the time of hire. LICENSE : A valid California Class C Driver License may be required at the time of hire. HIGHLY DESIRABLE : · Supervisory experience performing the full range of supervisory duties (e.g., employee selection, reviewing/approving time cards, writing and giving performance evaluations, training, disciplining employees and recommending commendations).
