Job Posting Summary

If you are interested in working in the Marketing and Communications (M&C) department in a Student Assistant C position, please submit your application for consideration. The department hires media, office, photo and communications student assistants as needed from this posting. The Student Assistant C positions available right now are as follows: 1) Office assistant: Answer phones and provide general office assistance for the department. Office duties include but are not limited to filing, faxing, photocopying, publication inventory, data entry and special projects. Assist with distribution of publications and news releases through electronic and manual distribution and posting to the web. May assist with clipping identified UAF-related ads, research contact information for database updates, keyword into FileMaker Pro database using Macintosh computer. Hours will be spent at the M&C offices in the Eielson and Wells Fargo buildings. 2) Communications assistant: Assists with writing, researching, gathering and posting announcements for staff, faculty and students. Assists in maintaining accurate, up-to-date content in the news and information and Grapevine website, including photos. Will also assist with preparing and setting up, meetings, presentations and other communication materials as well as the transcription of audio tapes. May also assist with helping to coordinate activities involving marketing and branding and the implementation of public relations communication plans. Other administrative duties may also be assigned. Hours will be spent at the M&C office in the Wells Fargo Building on University Avenue. As a reminder, student jobs are posted on a semester basis. Knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position.

Positions require the knowledge and skill to operate computers and equipment noted in the job description, demonstrated skills in the position applied for and the ability to exercise independent judgment. Must have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move boxes of print publications with or without accommodation.

Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel, FileMaker Pro or other database program, data entry, public contact and customer service. Previous office experience and familiarity with Macintosh computers. Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize. Knowledge of AP style and journalism preferred for communications and media student positions.

Special Conditions of Employment

NOTICE: Students must maintain enrollment and regular attendance for a minimum of at least 6 undergraduate credit hours or 6 graduate credit hours to be exempt from FICA (Social Security and Medicare) tax. A credit hour load below the minimum required for full-time student status will require the withholding of FICA tax (non-resident aliens on an appropriate visa who meet student employment criteria will continue to be exempt from FICA regardless of credit hour load).
