Pac-12 Enterprises is looking for a talented and flexible Studio Supervisor to lead our studio production crews and ensure the smooth technical operation of live and recorded studio sports productions and to oversee all related post-production and transmission requirements.
In this role you will be responsible for front line management, maintenance and alignment of a full range of broadcast equipment at our state-of-the-art television studios in downtown San Francisco.
Acting as a liaison between production, engineering and studio crews, you must have excellent communication skills and be able to identify clear and concise flows of information.
* Oversee the day-to-day operational requirements of all studios and control rooms.
* Manage staff and freelancers working on a variety of studio productions.
* Work with production teams, studio staff and engineers in the planning and preparation of studio productions.
* Communicate necessary production information and developments to all relevant crew and staff.
* Co-ordinate post-production and master control requirements related to studio productions.
* Assist engineers with technical rigging when required.
* Attend planning meetings with production teams and technical departments.
* Compile and maintain studio logs and technical reports.
* Assist engineers with the maintenance of studios and control rooms.
* Organize equipment safety testing and adhere to all safety requirements to maintain a safe working environment.
* Organize the hire and/or purchase of studio equipment when required.
* Oversee studio upgrades and special projects when required.
* Identify training needs of staff and organize relevant training.
* Must be familiar with shading cameras for television broadcasts.
* Oversee all technical aspects of daily and weekly sports broadcasts and be responsible for the final on-air product.
* Follow instructions from directors during productions for the operation of all studio and control room broadcast equipment.
* Test and troubleshoot equipment functionality issues, reporting issues and ensuring repairs are made in a timely manner.
* Operate equipment to produce and broadcast live studio programs and live programs from remote locations, documenting and backing up settings for specific configurations on switchers, multi-viewers, and patches between devices.
* Act as liaison between engineering and production departments: Confer with operations directors in order to formulate and maintain fair and attainable technical policies for programs and produce reports for production events.
* Oversee technical crew: Train workers in use of equipment such as switchers, cameras, monitors, microphones, and lights; Supervise and assign duties to workers engaged in technical control and production of television programs; directing camera and video staff concerning shading and composition.
* Develop and communicate disaster recovery plans for operations staff to follow during major technical malfunctions.
* Perform other duties as directed by Director of Studio Operations which may include assisting in the production of various program elements, as well as direct and technical direct additional programs.
* Project an appropriate professional appearance and demeanor and Maintain positive and cooperative rapport with staff, management, and clients.
* The Studio Video operator is responsible for controlling the picture quality by utilizing test equipment to adjust the video equipment. There are a variety of adjustments that can be made, including exposure, black level, and color balance.
* Four year degree in television engineering or related field.
* Minimum 7 years of experience in broadcast production engineering and operations for television newscasts, live and taped special events and sports programming.
* Ability to supervise and/or independently set up and operate a control room and studio in order to facilitate productions and fast-paced live programs with multiple live studio camera shots, external and internal video feeds, graphics, audio and other content.
* Must be flexible, capable of handling multiple assignments, work well under pressure and thrive under tight deadlines.
* Must be willing and able to work flexible schedules including evenings, overnights, and most weekends and holidays; September through May.
* Must possess an acute visual sense, strong leadership and organizational skills, and be self-motivated.
* Must have an in-depth knowledge of Sony 7000 and Ross Carbonite production switchers, HD cameras and digital effects, Calrec and Yamaha 5.1 audio systems, enterprise media asset management systems, Windows and Mac based computer applications, routers and lighting consoles, Evertz, Abekas, Chyron Hyper X.
Experience with Dalet, iNews, ENPS, Radamec camera control, VizRT, Sony ELC, Ross Overdrive, Ignite, and Columbus automation systems is desirable.
