Under general supervision, provides counseling, drug education and case management for substance abuse clients in accordance with government and department standards. Responds to the unique needs of adolescent patients as the need arises.

Position Requirements


Required: A Bachelor’s degree in mental health or criminal justice, or a Master’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling or marriage and family therapy. Candidates must meet the standards outlined by the Alabama Department of Mental Health to qualify as either a Qualified Substance Abuse Counselor I (QSAP I) or Qualified Substance Abuse Counselor II (QSAP II).

Must: (1) enter 4,000 keystrokes per hour; (2) possess basic knowledge of PC applications, software, and database management.

Preferred: Two years of experience in the field of chemical dependency is highly desired.


Required: Qualified Substance Abuse Counselor I (QSAP I) or Qualified Substance Abuse Counselor II (QSAP II) as defined by the Alabama Department of Mental Health
