Application Deadline: Rolling
The American Civil Liberties Union of Idaho (ACLU-ID) seeks applicants for the Summer 2013 Litigation In/Externship . The successful candidate will have the opportunity to be an integral part of the Idaho affiliate of the ACLU, the nation’s premier guardian of liberty, from May through August 2013.
The Litigation In/Externship is designed for the skills and interests of law students who have just completed their 2L curricula. We will also consider students who have just completed their 1L curricula in appropriate cases, but we encourage those students to apply for the ACLU-ID Civil Liberties In/Externship. Cover letters should plainly demonstrate the applicant’s commitment to public interest law, explain any past litigation experience (particularly with constitutional law or the ACLU), and note how the applicant learned of this in/externship opportunity.
The successful candidate will be based in the ACLU-ID office in Boise, Idaho, and supervised by the Legal Director of the ACLU-ID. The Litigation In/Extern’s chief responsibility will be to assist with pending and upcoming litigation. The ACLU-ID maintains a busy litigation practice, almost exclusively in federal court, in impact cases raising constitutional issues of major legal and social significance. This internship is unpaid, although the ACLU-ID will cooperate with the successful candidate to obtain academic credit for internship or externship work if it is available from the in/extern’s law school. Start and end dates, as well as weekly hours, are flexible and we will discuss those with applicants selected for interviews.
We will be accepting on a rolling basis, in coordination with law school externship programs. We encourage early applications. Please send a resume, cover letter, writing sample, and two law-related references to Richard Eppink, Legal Director, ACLU of Idaho, P.O. Box 1897, Boise, ID 83701 or firstname.lastname@example.org .
The ACLU is an equal opportunity/affirmative action workplace and encourages women, people of color, persons with disabilities, and lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals to apply.
