Consumer Reports (CR) is a 250 million dollar non-profit organization focused on testing products, informing and protecting consumers. Join a team of professionals dedicated to protecting and informing consumers through various communication channels. This is a wonderful summer internship opportunity for students interested in gaining invaluable experience in a vibrant organization.
Summer internships will be available to current full-time students (undergraduate or graduate students) or recent graduates (graduated in December 2012 or graduating in May 2013). Academic credits can be applied if applicable (please specify in your application if your internship will be for credit and provide contact information for your academic institution representative).
Internship positions will start in late May and run through mid-August (total of 12 weeks, with some flexibility). Interns will be paid $15 per hour based on a 35-hour work week. In addition, interns will be invited to participate in activities including lunch with senior leaders of Consumer Reports, a tour of our world-renowned product testing labs, and a trip to our Auto Test facilities in Colchester, CT.
NOTE: For summer internships, Consumers Reports cannot pay any relocation or housing allowance. Internships are filled on a rolling basis. It is suggested that you apply as soon as possible.
Consumer Reports interns are considered trainees under the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1973.
• Communications and/or journalism major preferred;
• Must have a strong interest in women’s magazines;
• Web savvy - familiarity with blogs and social platforms;
• Computer/word processing skills (particularly Microsoft Word on a Mac computer);
• Well-organized, detail-oriented and able to handle changing priorities;
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills a must!
ShopSmart intern will have the opportunity to work in all facets of the editorial process including:
• Writing side bars to bigger stories and by-lined weekly blogs
• Help with Facebook and Twitter postings
• Research project that will develop into a major feature in a future issue of ShopSmart magazine
• Attend and participate in editorial meetings – production, idea brainstorming, poll and survey idea meetings, etc.
• Opportunity to see how marketed stories are produced for the fashion and home design page.
