The Lignite Plant Superintendent is responsible for management leadership to maintain the Sandow Plant. The Sandow facility consist of one PC unit and one CFB unit, with a cumulative net capacity of 1,200,000 kw and will fire locally produced lignite coal. Primary area of responsibility will be the execution of maintenance work performed by Luminant and contractor personnel (including planned/scheduled maintenance and project work, unplanned maintenance work, outage and non-outage work, etc.). Required experience includes: fossil plant maintenance, maintenance management, planning and scheduling, project management, safety procedures, auxiliary equipment, fuel handling systems, lockout/tag out, byproducts handling, scrubber maintenance.
Analyze and prioritize equipment problems and operational problems to ensure critical repairs are made to maintain plant reliability and availability.
Direct a multi-skilled, bargaining unit workforce through direct reports to provide the supervision, safety management, labor relations, and training and development required to ensure the safe reliable and efficient, long-term operation of the power plant.
Develop and manage the portion of the Maintenance O&M, Special Project and Capital Budget Activities. Also, as required, implement the adjustment of the budgets when necessary due to unplanned events in the Fossil Generation Business Unit.
Direct the activities of all contractors and vendors including plant services.
Team with peers, supervisors, subordinates, and representatives of other functional areas of Luminant establish, modify, and coordinate corporate business unit, and function level policies and procedures through standing committee and/or ad hoc task team assignments.
Manage the area maintenance by maintaining accessibility to plant personnel on a 24 hour per day/7 days per week basis.
Incumbent will be accountable for meeting all objectives (metrics) for the area of responsibility.
Directly responsible for providing continuous up-to-date status on support activities to appropriate parties to ensure an excellent communication link within the plant and other Luminant Power affiliates. Must have established communications skills.
Teams with peers, management, and representatives of other Functional Areas of Luminant Power to establish, modify, and coordinate Function Level policies and procedures through standing committee and/or ad hoc task team assignments.
Major responsibilities include:
Manage employee development and labor relations for the area, including administration of the labor agreement for the bargaining unit employees.
Ensure compliance with all safety and environmental regulations and company policies and procedures.
Provide coaching and leadership for the implementation of the Reliability Optimization Initiative (ROI) and Operational Best Practices (OBP).
Develop and manage area level budget, including current year projections and future year planning.
The ability to function as part of and develop teams.
Minimum background and knowledge requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field and five (5) years experience in first-line supervision and management OR twelve (12) years of craft, supervisory, and management experience in major areas of responsibility.
Proven management experience with outstanding interpersonal skills in dealing with management, supervisors, engineers, technicians, contractors, craft employees, etc.
Leads and helps to facilitate safety program implementation, labor relations coordination, and training or personnel development initiatives to ensure the safe, reliable, operation of the power plant.
Strong leadership and coaching experience in dealing with direct reports including excellent motivational ability.
Proven teaming ability.
Proven experience in the technical understanding of pulverized coal maintenance, planning and scheduling, engineering, environmental controls, and I&C systems.
Concise and effective written and oral communications skills.
Additional preferred qualifications:
Experience in development and execution of O&M and Capital projects.
Knowledge of reliability centered maintenance and condition-based maintenance, risk-based inspection and root cause analysis; familiarization of computer applications such as Meridium, PRISM, OSI PI, GADs and TIPS.
Computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
Knowledge of I & C and DCS systems.
Knowledge of environmental policies and rules.
Knowledge of water chemistry and monitoring systems.
Knowledge and application of reliability center maintenance, lean management and Operating Systems concepts.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position requires the ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities in the following environment:
Occasional long and irregular hours; may require the work in excess of 12 hours per day for seven days per week.
Ability to comply with the Luminant Respirator Policy.
Position will require the employee to be on call 24 hours per day, seven days per week.
Must be able to climb stairs and ladders.
Occasionally work in wet, cold, hot, and dusty conditions.
