The Supervisor - Central Sterile is a person having extensive knowledge, experience, proficiency and/or certifications in comprehensive, technical surgical skills that provides technical leadership in the care of the perioperative patient. Under the supervision of the Department Director, provides supervision of the sterile processing staff and oversight responsibility for the timely, accurate, and safe processing of instrumentation. Assesses instrument sets for completion, too much/too little inventory, and adjusts content to meet needs. In addition, working under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, attends to the patients direct care needs. Acts a primary preceptor for Surgical Technology Students, Surgical Technologists, and Central Sterile/Supply Techs in developing needed direct care skills and performs tasks as delegated by the Director/RN. When involved in patient care, works in partnership with a RN and although this individual does not assume an independent assignment, can be relied upon to demonstrate excellence in the direct care of the most complex perioperative patients. In addition, Supports an organizational culture for Service Excellence and practices the Service Excellence Standards to all customer groups.
