High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
Minimum three (3) years experience in a Health Information Management department, with supervisory experience preferred.
Registered Heath Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or RHIT/RHIA eligible with successful certification within one year of employment.
Basic medical terminology knowledge required.
Extensive experience and knowledge of PC applications, including Microsoft Office and Excel.
Experience with an electronic health record preferred.
Detail-oriented, good organizational skills, and ability to be self-directed.
Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) required.
Certified Coding Specialist Physician Based (CCS-P) preferred.
Knowledge of medical terminology, disease processes and pharmacology.
Knowledge of coding and operational implications of ICD-10.
Thorough knowledge of ICD-9, CPT and HCPCS coding classification systems; MS-DRGs, APCs, Correct Coding Initiatives, medical necessity requirements.
Ability to learn quickly and meet continuous timelines.
Strong time management skills, managing multiple priorities and a heavy workload in a high-stress atmosphere.
Strong problem solving, analytical, and investigative skills.
Knowledge of facility and physician billing process and revenue cycle environment.
Demonstrated flexibility to perform other tasks as needed in an active work environment with changing work needs.
Ability to compute basic mathematical calculations.
Excellent internal/external customer service skills.
Excellent communication skills to include oral and written comprehension and expression.
