Supervisor Clinical Pastoral Education –
  • Clinical Pastoral Education (SOCH):

    The supervisor of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) develops curriculum, conducts and selects students for all levels of CPE program (Level I, II and Supervisory) under the standards of the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE). Supervises students’ clinical work, provides educational opportunities and evaluates students. Engages in on-going practice of Clinical Supervision of Level I and Level II CPE, Supervisory as well as Residents. Educates supervisory students and oversees their progress in supervising Level I and Level II students. As a member of the supervisory team, participates in the planning of the overall training program. Participates in the Western New York Regional SES/ACPE peer group. Serves as a resource to the Director of Chaplaincy Services. The supervisor also actively and personally engages in on-going practice of Clinical Chaplaincy as a basis for educational practice.

    REPORTS TO: Manager of Clinical Pastoral Education

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Clinical Pastoral Education students: interns, residents, and supervisory education students.

    SKILL AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS (MINIMUM):

    Educational Requirements:
    ·
    Master’s Level Degree in Theology or related field is required.
    · Certification as a CPE Supervisor or an Associate Supervisor by National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC) or the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) is required.
    · Certified (or eligible for certification) as Board Certified Chaplain by either the National Association of Catholic Chaplains or the Association of Profession Chaplains required.
    · Ordained or commissioned by one’s faith group or denomination. Denominational endorsement required.
    Experience Requirements:
    ·
    Three years of experience as a supervisor or associate supervisor of Level I and Level ll students preferred.
    · Experience working with multicultural and diverse religious backgrounds is highly desirable.
    · Two years experience as Clinical Pastoral Education Supervisor, supervising and teaching Chaplain interns and residents required.
    · Previous experience conducting supervisory education programs preferred.

    · Skills in pastoral research and spiritual assessment.
    · Ability to analyze data for performance improvement activities.
    · Understands the importance of working as a team both within and outside the department.
    · Cooperative relationship with persons of varying faith traditions or of no tradition.
    · Knowledge of and support for the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Facilities
    · Strong spiritual maturity.
    · Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
    · Strong organizational, interpersonal, and computer skills, as well as knowledge of regulatory requirements appropriate for the position.
    · Ability to maintain professional and personal confidentiality and HIPAA Regulations.
    · Ability to be assertive yet flexible.
    · Strong Management skills.
    · Ability to exercise the authority of the position and to delegate as needed.
    · Ability to implement the institution’s mission and philosophy as it relates to the Spiritual Care Department.
    WORKING CONDITIONS:
    ·
    Some direct contact with patients with communicable diseases using accepted universal precautions.
    · Substantial time spent with students ministering to staff, patients and their loved ones requiring a high degree of emotional energy and mental alertness.
    · Must have mobility through the health institution’s facilities which are handicapped accessible.
    · Must be able to travel to peer group meetings, Seminar on Supervision Workshops, and Regional conferences.
