The Department of Environmental Services is seeking a Supervisor of Environmental Services. Reporting to the Director of Environmental Services, along with the Manager of Environmental Services responsible for supervising up to 50 hourly personnel. A full time salaried position, with benefits, the Supervisor is responsible for meeting the College’s expectations and the goals of the Environmental Services department.
The Supervisor of Environmental Services will develop and maintain cleaning schedules and routines; meet customer expectations for cleanliness and sanitary conditions; Be in compliance with all applicable environmental health and safety requirements; Continually review and adjust schedules and routines as needed; Provide hands-on training to custodians in effective cleaning procedures, proper use of equipment and cleaning solutions, building security, and environmental health and safety regulations; Assign and supervise work performed by hourly environmental employees; Perform regular cleaning quality inspections for all areas; Document inspection results and initiate corrective actions as needed; In concert with the Manager, manage employee performance; conduct counsel or discipline actions as necessary; Ensure environmental operations compliance with all procedures for use and care of facilities; Ensure environmental operations compliance with all procedures relating to workplace safety, environmental issues, recycling regulations and building safety; Maintain records of employee attendance, work schedules, key distribution logs, and equipment and supplies inventories. Audit time cards for accuracy & submit to payroll for processing; Assist with recruitment, interviewing & hiring of new environmental staff; Ensure staff are removing snow & applying ice-melt in accordance with procedures; ensure staff are maintaining appropriate cleaning supply levels & using efficiently & effectively.
The ideal candidate will have a high school degree with a minimum two to three years of supervisory experience in a customer-focused environmental operation required. Specialized knowledge of effective environmental and housekeeping procedures and cleaning systems required. Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills required.
The successful candidate will have the ability to spend fifty to seventy percent of his/her time on his or her feet. Must be physically able to perform all environmental duties required of his/her crew. A significant amount of stair climbing as well as bending and kneeling is also required. Working knowledge of desktop computing systems including word processing and database applications strongly desired. In addition, a college or other similar residential background is a plus and knowledge of industry recognized Green Cleaning principles is strongly preferred.
