The main purpose of this position is to coordinate the operation of the coal yard with the daily needs of the plant to ensure that the proper amount and quality of fuel is supplied to the plant in a safe manner by a fully competent crew.
Communicate with the Shift Supervisor and the MWF to coordinate the coal yard operation to supply the daily needs of the plant.
Oversee the inspection, repair and maintenance of all coal yard equipment so that it is safe and operable at all times. Oversee the lubrication of coal yard equipment.
Train and motivate employees to maintain high levels of competency and safety.
Maintain a safe working environment by conducting tailboards, ensuring adherence to P&T system, promoting good housekeeping, conducting safety meetings, etc.
Communicate with the Shift Supervisor, immediate supervisor and the Superintendent of Plant regarding daily information on coal yard operations.
Oversee the sampling of delivered coal according to ASTM standards and PPL quality specs.
Manage the coal supply and provide the proper receipt by dumper scale and consumption scale operation, along with as-fired coal sampling.
Use computers and other assistive technologies in coal yard operations including communications within the PPL system, submission of work requests, scale reporting, cross checking the car dump and plant scales and other related responsibilities. Maintain daily fuel, equipment, rail and operations logs.
Knowledge of coal handling equipment and machinery, i.e. crushers, conveyors, dumpers, scales, mobile equipment.
A minimum requirement of high school diploma is recommended. The education required for this position is gained by on-the-job experience in specified positions within coal yard operations.
Working knowledge of fuel processing/blending to ensure fuel quality meets plant and regulatory requirements, i.e. moisture, ash and sulfur.
