      The Building Construction Products (BCP) Division is a global division of Caterpillar, Inc. that employs several thousand employees located at over 8 facilities worldwide.       The Building Products Construction Division has internship openings for Summer 2013 to work as a Supply Management intern in a Purchasing function.

      The Supply Management intern will lead continuous improvement initiatives and new product introduction activities within Purchasing. Demonstrate leadership in recognizing the potential for cost and inventory reductions, and quality improvement; as well as responsibility for soundness of business proposals and risk assessment. This role has responsibility for implementation of local or regional sourcing strategy, under the direction of their Manager and experienced Buyers. Works or assists in all aspects of selected projects to completion as needed.

      Other key responsibilities may include but not limited to:

      People: - Works effectively with colleagues, customers, and suppliers at all levels.

      Leadership: Incumbent will assess and recommend solutions related to Quality, Cost, Logistics,

      Development, and Management (QCLDM). Maintain the highest ethical and professional standards

      within this diverse organization.

      Strategy: This role is responsible and accountable for the development, and/or communication and

      implementation of a local or regional sourcing strategy. Accountable for the liaison with the

      corresponding Category/Platform based Buyers.

      Customers: This role may support Buyers, Supplier Development Engineers, and/or Managers working with category teams and sites. Customer(s) will be fully informed of progress on assignments to ensure all requirements are met.

      Travel: Limited travel may be required to support category management.



      We are seeking full-time students enrolled in a BS or MS degree program, preferably in Supply Chain and/or Logistics Management or Industrial Engineering. Students should possess a minimum GPA of 2.8.

      This role requires demonstration of effective communication skills, both oral and written. Must be able to exhibit strong interpersonal skills, a collaborative work style and prioritize work in a dynamic environment. Capable of leading teams, suppliers and customers to effective solutions will be a critical in this role.

      The ideal candidate would possess analytical, problem solving and project leadership skills. Intermediate to advanced skill in use of computer software programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Visio, PowerPoint, purchasing systems, and e-mail systems is preferred.
