, is looking for an entrepreneurial, analytical-minded individual for a Surety Claims Counsel opportunity with our surety organization based out of Seattle, WA. This is an excellent and rare developmental opportunity for an entry-level attorney to launch an exciting career in the surety industry, and will include tailored learning experiences and mentoring to develop a deep understanding of the business in preparation for surety claims handling.

In this role, you will learn all aspects of the surety claims business necessary to cultivate skills for managing diverse and complex surety claims. You will be responsible for contributing to technical processes that optimize planned business results by working independently and within a team. In addition, you will develop the skills necessary to apply your acquired knowledge of surety claims to a portfolio of cases varying in size and scope by assisting peer attorney


s and managing your own cases. This includes development of the skills necessary to investigate, evaluate and settle claims in a fair and efficient manner, as well as developing proficiency in negotiating, analyzing


, resolving and managing surety claims.

Develop, demonstrate, and exercise an understanding of the surety industry, including the structure, terms and conditions of Liberty Mutual's liabilities under bonds and applicable laws and regulations

Cultivate and develop the skills to investigate, negotiate, analyze, resolve, and manage surety claims towards achievement of loss ratio goals.

Under supervision, evaluate and settle contract and commercial Surety claims within delegated authority and aligned region.

Draft and review legal documents. May manage outside counsel as directed.

Identify and escalate potential high exposure claims and provide recommendations as appropriate.

Stay abreast of laws, state statutes, and regulations regarding surety bonds and claims. Maintain current knowledge of legal issues and developments in the law.

Responsible for all other duties as assigned

Completion of law school with a J.D. degree and a member of bar in at least one jurisdiction required.

Preference of 0-1 years of experience practicing as an attorney. Recent law school graduates encouraged to apply.

Minimum 3.0 GPA or ranking of 50% or greater highly preferred.

Requirements include excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to conduct research and analysis of legal issues.

A general understanding of how to handle complex litigation, claims, and /or general liability work desired.

Displays entrepreneurial instinct and gets satisfaction in self-directing, willing to ask questions, works best in a fast paced environment, and creatively applying resources.

Comfortable with technical applications.

Demonstrated ability to balance competing priorities and meet deadlines.
