The Surgical Technician is a person having
extensive knowledge, experience, proficiency and/or certifications in
comprehensive, technical surgical skills that provides technical
leadership in the care of the perioperative patient. Working under
the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, attends to the patients
direct care needs. Acts a primary preceptor for Surgical Technology
Students, Surgical Technologist I, and Surgical Technologist II in
developing needed direct care skills and performs tasks as delegated
by the R.N. Works in partnership with a Registered Nurse and although
this individual does not assume an independent assignment, can be
relied upon to demonstrate excellence in the direct care of the most
complex perioperative patients. Supports an organizational culture
for Service Excellence and practices the Service Excellence Standards
to all customer groups. Participates in Continuous Quality
Improvement initiatives in collaboration with other health team

High School diploma or equivalent

Was employed to practice surgical technology
in a healthcare facility before September 1, 2009 or

Is in the service of the federal government,
to the extent the person is performing duties related to that

Completion of a surgical technologist program
with certification exam eligibility - certification preferred.

Two years surgical technology experience
