Responsible to the Nurse Manager and/or Director of Labor and Delivery and is under the direct supervision of the Charge Nurse.
Responsible for assisting the surgeons and nurses during surgical procedures.
License / Certifications / Requirements
Current National Surgical Technologist certification required from an accredited educational program for surgical technologists AND holds and maintains certification as a surgical technologist by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting, or NCCT or another surgical technologist certification program approved by the Texas Department of State Health Services. BLS required.
Will be allowed 6 months from date of hire to attain current certification.
Anyone employed before September 1, 2009 as surgical technologist and who is not currently certified as a surgical technologist will have 30 days from date of hire to attain current certification as surgical technologist.
High School graduate or GED required.
One year operating room experience preferred.
Successful completion of hospital and unit specific orientation. Effective oral and written communication skills. Proficiency with computer technology.
Ability to work well with others in a team environment to ensure quality patient care. Strong problem solving and customer service skills. Must be able to speak, read, write and comprehend English. Will be required to work weekdays, weekends and holidays. Due to changes in patient census, may be required to leave early, rotate days off or help with other departments.
