Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Kauai Community College, Sustainable Agriculture Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College Career Training (TAACCCT) 2011 Grant, located in Kaua’i, Hawai’i. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.

MINIMUM MONTHLY SALARY: Salary Commensurate with qualifications.

DUTIES: Teaches agriculture and plant bioscience courses, and performs other teaching related functions involving curriculum, assessment, and mentoring. Acts as a campus outreach coordinator for agriculture programs. Builds and maintains contacts with plant bioscience, renewable energy, and other agricultural companies in the Kaua‘i County. Consults and works collaboratively with Kaua‘i Community College (KCC) faculty, administrators, staff and farm activities, including those managed by the Rural Development Program and United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Agronomy, Agriculture Sciences, Crop Science, Horticulture, Soil Science, Apiculture, or a closely related field. EXPERIENCE: At least two (2) years of experience in food production, gardening, or greenhouse gardening. Experience to include tilling, planning, spraying, and harvesting. Experience using small farming machinery. ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications software, including word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation programs. Accurate and detail-oriented work skills. Effective communication (verbal and written), organization, and human relations skills. Able to work independently, prioritize workloads to meet deadlines, prioritize and anticipate problems, and work well in a diverse environment. Must possess a valid driver’s license.

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS: Successful college teaching experience. Ability to employ writing assignments and critical thinking skill development as part of students’ classroom learning activities. Willingness to instruct via the various technological media available to the college, including distance learning.
