The Messaging and Collaboration Services Engineer is responsible for developing strategies, implementing solutions and providing operational support for enterprise messaging and collaboration services which include Microsoft (MS) Exchange, MS Lync, ListServ Maestro and a variety of smart phone devices. The Messaging and Collaboration Services engineer must possess a broad range of technical skills to effectively research, design, test, implement and support enterprise-class messaging and collaboration services. The Messaging and Collaboration Services engineer will work with an extended team of technical and customer service staff within the IS&T Shared Services department to ensure messaging and collaboration services stay aligned with dynamic organizational initiatives that include research, teaching and administrative objectives.
Provides technical guidance and leadership to directors in IS&T.
Messaging and Collaboration Services Research and Design

Responsible for designing enterprise messaging and collaboration services. Required skills in this area include but are not limited to:
a. Research technology and best practices for establishing on premise and cloud-based messaging and collaboration services.
b. Architect infrastructure and support scenarios that allow for secure and flexible messaging and collaboration services.
c. Design test labs and use cases that allow for realistic and timely assessment of proposed alternative solutions.
Messaging and Collaboration Services Implementation

Responsible for implementing enterprise messaging and collaboration services. Required skills in this area include but are not limited to:
a. Act as technical subject matter expert when consulting with management team and Sr. Project Leader to establish project plans, project budgets and project implementation teams that allow for timely implementation of approved messaging and collaboration services.
b. Act as primary mentor to technical implementation team so that technical tasks, obstacles and training barriers associated with messaging and collaboration services implementations are addressed in a timely manner.
Messaging and Collaboration Services Level 3 Support

Responsible for supporting enterprise messaging and collaboration services. Required skills in this area include but are not limited to:
a. Act as technical subject matter expert and mentor to IS&T Solutions Center support staff so they are trained in quick and accurate resolution of messaging and collaboration services support questions.
b. Act as Level 3 support point of contact for researching and resolving any messaging and collaboration services support question that cannot be answered by IS&T Solutions Center support staff.
c. Establish Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) and general support knowledge-base for use by IS&T Solutions Center support staff.
Messaging and Collaboration Services Environment Documentation

Responsible for documenting enterprise messaging and collaboration services.

Required skills in this area include but are not limited to:
a. Document existing messaging and collaboration services, solutions and interfaces
b. Provide diagrams and/or flow-charts for messaging and collaboration services and solutions
c. Maintain documentation relating to assigned tasks and projects

Required Qualifications
  • Associates degree plus four years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical issues
  • Ability to adjust to changes in priorities
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision with a high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new circumstances
  • Good organizational skills
  • Excellent language and people skills
  • Good written, presentation, and oral communication skills
  • Must be flexible and willing to work extended hours as necessary and recognize the need to do so
  • Ability to adjust scheduled time
  • Must be able to exercise good judgment and common sense in implementing plans, particularly demonstrating a proactive approach to problem solving
Preferred Qualifications
  • In depth understanding of emerging messaging and collaboration technologies that blend email, voice, data, imaging and video
  • Five years of experience designing, implementing and administering messaging and collaboration systems like MS Exchange and MS Office Communications Server (now called Lync)
  • Five years of experience supporting MS Windows Servers as a system administrator to include Active Directory and Exchange implementation and management
  • Three years of experience supporting smart phones (either BlackBerry, iPhone or Android devices)
  • Two years of Powershell Scripting experience
  • In depth understanding of network protocols and protocol interaction with at least 2 years of experience in a distributed network environment.
  • Ability to understand, recommend, design, and implement enterprise-class messaging and collaboration services to include provisioning methodologies
