Transmission System Operator is responsible for the operations of NextEra Energy Resources equipment and interface with Balancing Authorities, other Transmission Operators, NextEra Energy Resources Field Personnel, and Reliability Coordinators.
A Transmission System Operator has the responsibility and authority to direct and implement real-time actions to ensure the stable and reliable operation of the NextEra Energy Resources Bulk Electric System.
Such actions include all switching and voltage control actions to prevent or alleviate System Operating Limit (SOL) or Interconnection Reliability Operating Limit (IROL) violations.
These actions are performed, as required, without additional authorization .
Transmission System Operators are responsible for complying with NERC and regional reliability standards, protocols and operating guides as well as FERC Standards of Conduct.
The position's purpose is to monitor and control the reliable transfer of power on NextEra Energy Resources transmission facilities including reactive (Shunt Capacitor/Inductor) dispatch, and supervision of all activities within the NextEra Energy Resources Control Center.
These activities include: interface with the Generator Operator (GO), maintaining reliability of the NextEra Energy Resources transmission system with specific operating practices and according to NERC and regional reliability standards; evaluate and process generation, transmission and substation equipment clearance requests consistent with system reliability; assess both real time power flow and next day operations forecasts to identify and mitigate potential system issues; inform management of emergencies affecting the reliability or economics of the power system; train other Transmission System Operators, to meet the requirements of NERC / Region / NextEra Energy Resources system operations; supervise and direct all daily operational activities of NextEra Energy Resources Control Room; fulfill the requirements and coordination activities of the regional Reliability Coordinator.
The ERCC System Operator will also perform post-event analysis when Nextera T&S assets experience outages, and recommend immediate and follow up actions to be taken as a result.
Additionally, the ERCC System Operator will support TPDC functions for FPL during off hours, including FPL event analysis, notifications and outage coordination via conference line.
Associate's degree in related field of study or equivalent work experience
5+ years experience in a combination of the following areas:
System Operator/Dispatcher or Power System Field Operations
Restoration Plan Training
Training with program objectives based on NERC and Regional Reliability Organization standards, operating procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements
General industry experience with field operations, power plant operations or control room operations - NERC Balancing, Interchange, and Transmission Operator (BIT) Certification or NERC Transmission Operator (TO) Certification
Expert ability with analysis and problem solving, integrity & compliance, process/project management, leadership and professional skills - Advanced ability with commercial and communications skills
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Business Administration or related field of study or equivalent work experience - NERC Reliability Coordinator Certification Primary
Attend required training classes including NERC approved courses to earn continuing education hours (CEH) to maintain NERC certification
