We are seeking a Senior Unix Administrator with at least 10+ years of experience supporting customer production and testing environments for a company with multiple 24X7 Hosted Applications services data centers. Must have experience supporting N-Tier applications with multiple Unix based operating systems with emphasis on CentOS/RedHat with some working knowledge of Solaris. Fundamental knowledge of networking and TCP/IP, critical Unix tools such as Kerberos, DNS, LDAP, CFengine, Apache, TOMCAT. Must have knowledge designing and implementing high availability architectures and configuration running on large scale physical and virtual platforms.

Essential Functions:
Experience in supporting Enterprise N-Tier applications and systems within a Multi-data center environments.
Strong lead and team member in Linux, install, administer and support production servers in multiple project capacity.
Strong understanding of TCP/IP ports and protocols and how they interact with application components.
Strong understanding of Networking and Storage fundamentals and their impact on systems & applications.
Design, install, manage and maintain Vcenter & VSphere, VMware cluser with VMotion capabilities.
Ensure the development and enforcement of server configurations and operating standards through tools such as CFengine and Subversion.
Support application components in a Linux RedHat/CentOS/Solaris hosted environment with specific focus on Java based solutions.
Within our Environment team and Systems Operations Center, provide capacity planning and level 3 triage to resolve issues.

Secondary Functions:
Experience partnering with product and technical stakeholders providing end to end solutions from architecture, to post operation documentation.
Ability to multi-task and manage workloads in a 24x7 environment.

Scope and Accountability:
This position will interact with primarily other Systems Engineers and other Engineering teams to exchange issues, obtain technical approaches and understand new methods and standards.
Assignments usually come from the Systems Engineering Manager or Director

Strong independent decision making; makes recommendations; take action; performs work under minimal supervision.

Experience, Skills, Academic:
Qualifications/Requirements:
10+ years of designing and working with Unix Server operating systems environments with focus on CentOs & RedHat Linux.
Experience supporting Solaris
Knowledge of hosting/SaaS/ASP environments focusing on systems performance and high availability.
Strong system design skills.
Knowledge of programming/Scripting languages, preferable PERL, SH, KSH.
Experience with Kerberos and LDAP.
Knowledge of HTTP, NFS, DNS, LDAP, NTP, Postgres, Sendmail, Strongmail, and POSTFIX.
Exposure to Web and Java based server technology such as JBOSS, Weblogic, or Websphere.
Experience with Configuration management tools such as CFengine and Subversion, Spacewalk and Kickstart.
Good knowledge of TCP/IP, Layer2 & 3 Network, SAN, security compliance and VMWare virtualization technology.
Understanding of networking concepts as they apply in an enterprise-class Data Center; complex DNS implementations, Cisco and F5 Networks networking device experienced preferred.
Web Server technologies (IIS, Tomcat, Apache).
Relational databases (SQL Server (2000-2008) and/or Oracle (10g RAC)) as it relates to systems administration preferred (ability to move data in and out of databases using simple queries).
  • Application of and adherence to industry and best-practice standard in regards to security as it applies to core technologies.
Analytical skills necessary to ensure assignments are implemented in a clear, controlled, and anticipated fashion.
Ability to quickly learn about procedures and technologies for systems and applications and to apply new knowledge in small to medium size tasks.
Demonstrated clear and professional written and verbal communication skills.
Experience in creating process and procedural documentation; technical and non-technical coaching experience preferred.
Work effectively with all levels of company staff; must be a self-starter, and work well in a team environment.
BS/BA degree in Computer Science or related discipline or equivalent experience and a minimum of 15 years related work experience.
Preferred RedHat Certification.
