MDRC is seeking a Systems Analyst to support a project in its Families and Children policy area that requires project sites to maintain a computing and communications infrastructure. The project uses web-based software to access components of a new math curriculum for preschool classes in New York City. This position requires working closely with preschool teachers, school principals, and other school staff; MDRC researchers and IT staff; and the developers and distributors of the software to ensure stable hardware, software, and internet access to key components of the program. Some software will be accessed by pre-K children and others by teachers. The position requires a combination of skills, including public relations, project management, training, assessment, installation and maintenance of computers and internet connections, and delivery of consistent, expeditious customer support and guidance in a professional manner to the MDRC site partners and associates.
Serve as the primary liaison between the project team and the preschool classrooms on all computer hardware and software issues:
Participate in project team meetings to further the goals of the project:
- Respond quickly to troubleshoot any issues sites have accessing the web-based software, which may require communication with preschool teachers, school principals, school IT staff, internet provider, software publishing company, etc.
- This will require substantial travel to sites in four boroughs of New York City (i.e., Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan).
Visit preschool classrooms to assess systems, network, bandwidth, and infrastructure based on requirements for project implementation — both initially and on an ongoing basis:
- Share ideas on implementation of web-based data collection and program activities.
- Report activities/issues related to hardware and software use at project sites.
Train and support preschool teachers:
- Assess level of need to determine whether visits should be in-person or over the phone.
- Interact in a professional manner with site administrators and outside project partners.
Manage installation, setup, and troubleshooting of hardware and software needed for project sites:
- Basic computer skills as needed for project implementation.
- Use of software required for project implementation.
- Set up computer labs to train 200 teachers.
Foster and maintain a positive atmosphere in which skill-building and professional development are encouraged.
- Find creative solutions to troubleshooting, like installing shortcuts, creating manuals for training, and compiling suggestions for improvement of software for software publishing company.
- Analyze and resolve software and operating system problems within the supported computing and communication environment.
- Apply and maintain computing and communication security policies, processes, and procedures.
- Ensure data integrity, confidentiality, and protection against unauthorized access, intrusion, and/or infection by viruses, worms, etc.

- At least 3-5 years of experience in IT or related field
- Proficiency with operating systems, utilities, browsers, and applications
- Excellent professional communication skills (including strong reading, writing, and presentation skills)
- Experience working with interdisciplinary teams
- Excellent organization skills to balance multiple tasks and tight deadlines
- Experience working in IT Help Desk position (or the like)
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- A go-getter, initiator, motivator with ability to take charge and be solution-oriented
- Flexible and willing to accommodate non-traditional work hours (trainings and meetings may need to be scheduled on evenings or weekends in order to accommodate teachers’ work schedules)
