We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Technician within our Energy group. Under limited supervision, this position supports engineering activities and operation of general laboratory equipment for the Energy Multiplier Module (EM2) project for General Atomics.


Fabricates, modifies, installs, and documents laboratory, experimental or commercial equipment

Operates equipment and/or performs tests requiring knowledge of processes pertinent to the project

Executes a set of laboratory experiments or laboratory functions

Identifies and reports operational problems or trouble sources in equipment or tests. Interprets basic information displayed to recognize when various operating measures are drifting out of established parameters. May adjust operating parameters to bring systems back to satisfactory operating conditions

Collects, records, reduces, and summarizes data

Observes all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company. Works in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices

Performs other duties as assigned or required


Typically requires an Associate’s degree or Certificate in a related discipline and two or more years of related experience

Additional related experience may be substituted in lieu of formal education

Requires full knowledge of the technical field, associated policies and procedures and relevant regulations

Must have analytical ability to read and understand technical instructions, drawings and specifications and utilize a variety of equipment or experimental procedures

Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and interface effectively with all levels of technical personnel including engineers and scientists, explain technical information, respond to routine issues or situations and maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information

Must possess basic machine shop skills and operation, including drilling and milling

Must have general knowledge and operation of vacuum equipment, cranes

Must have basic knowledge of chemical safety, i.e. know difference between acid and base liquids, pH, able to read MSDS

Must have computer skills for precise documentation and data collection and analysis with MS Excel and Word

Must have excellent organizational skills to ensure a clean, well-kept lab, equipment, and workspace

May be required to work in unusual conditions as with respirator, high pressure, high voltage, high energy, cryogenics, heights, weights, or radioactive materials and be able to work extended hours as required


Familiar and comfortable with R&D environment

Experience with mechanical load frames and hot press equipment

Previous experience handling hazardous materials and/or radioactive materials

Machine shop skills and operation, including drilling and milling
