Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America, Inc (TEMA) is the alignment of Toyota's North American R&D and manufacturing operations, joining the operations, planning and technical functions. Established in April 2006, TEMA strengthens Toyota's North American customer focus, through improved supplier cooperation, overall speed, flexibility and attention to quality. TEMA headquarters in Erlanger, KY, house the Toyota Operations Center and the Toyota Planning Center. The main offices for the Toyota Technical Center are in Ann Arbor, MI.
The Assistant Manager will provide legal and patent related support to Toyota North American Affiliates through Toyota Legal One. Responsibilities inlcude but are not limited to:
Perform patent related activity for selected Vehicle research and development departments.
Perform invention submission activity for responsible departments.
Perform patent related activity (patent search, clearance search, patent drafting) for responsible departments.
Review and instruct outside counsel in the handling of patent related matters for responsible departments.
Perform patent related training.
Conduct contract negotiation, drafting, and other contract related support.
Provide proactive protection of manufacture and sale of Toyota vehicles.
Provide 3rd party risk management relating to Intellectual Property.
Provide Intellectual property/contractual support for advanced research projects.
Perform drafting, filing, and prosecution of domestic and foreign patents.
Provide clearance activity for vehicle design process.
Perform drafting, negotiating, and managing contracts with 3rd parties.
Minimize risk for Toyota research and development activity due to 3rd party patents.
Assist with 3rd party supplier disputes.
This position is based in Ann Arbor, MI and not at our TEMA location located at Erlanger, KY
Bachelor's of Science degree from an accredited university.
Juris Doctorate from an ABA accredited law school.
Must be a member in standing of a state bar.
Must be registered to practice before the USPTO.
Experience with Intellectual Property .
Experience with Patent Portfolio Management.
Experience with Patent searching.
Experience with Patent drafting and prosecution.
Ability to perform clearance/invalidation studies.
Contract experience in relation to Research and Development, Government, and licensing contracts.
Experience with International Business Transactions.
Expereince with Technology / Product development.
