The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction is looking for dedicated security-minded criminal justice professionals to assume the responsibilities of Teacher 1 (Special Education - Intervention Specialist) .
Uses a variety of instructional methods including, individualization, large group instruction, small group instruction and/or team teaching, in meeting the wide ranging needs of the students in the area of Special Education/Intervention. Diagnoses individual needs, tests and evaluates student performance; participates in the multi-factored evaluation and individualized education program processes. Conduct counseling pertinent to learning, educational program planning, decision making process; Cooperates with other educational personnel of overlapping responsibilities. Maintain up-to-date records of student progress, attendance, classroom control and discipline and/or security; provides input in planning and preparation of the program budget and other special reports as required. Performs other education and/or related duties as requested by education administrators.
Must meet eligibility requirements for Teacher/License appropriate for learning disabilities/behavioral disorders; or severe behavioral handicapped; or multi-handicapped; or develop-mentally handicapped; or current valid Ohio teaching license in mild/moderate, intervention specialist or moderate/intensive intervention specialist pursuant to OAC 3301.24.05 appropriate for those with learning disabilities & behavioral disorders & grade level to be assigned; Teacher 1, 71211, must also have baccalaureate degree or less per OEA agreement; Teacher 2, 71212, must also have a baccalaureate degree & 20 additional quarter hrs. but less than master's degree, or non-degreed career-tech teachers with at least 3 yrs. career-tech teaching exp. & who have completed an approved pre- & in-service education program per OEA agreement; Teacher 3, 71213, must also have master's degree but less than a Master’s Degree & thirty (30) additional post-graduate quarter hours. Non-degreed career-tech teachers shall be moved to the Master’s Schedule after obtaining the requirement per OEA agreement; Teacher 4, 71214, must also have master's degree & 30 hrs. of post-graduate quarter hours. Non-degreed career-tech teachers shall move to the MA+30 column after obtaining the requirements per OEA agreement.

Major Worker Characteristics:
Knowledge of teacher education designed for students with learning disabilities & behavioral disorders & assigned grade level; departmental policies & procedures concerning operations of educational program to include those for discipline &/or security*. Skill in operating equipment associated with assigned area of specialization or subject & audio-visual equipment. Ability to assess educational needs of students & develop appropriate lesson plans & individualized assistance; prepare & maintain accurate & concise reports & records; gather collate & classify information about data, people or things; establish good rapport with students & work cooperatively with other facility staff members; recognize unusual or threatening conditions & take appropriate action.
