Pre-Award Team Leaders are responsible for the performance of professional administrative activities in the submission of proposals, budget development, and the review and negotiation of complex agreements. They are also responsible for exercising sound decision-making and problem solving skills in the negotiation of agreements (including amendments and modifications), and for assisting in the development of administrative procedures to comply with regulations affecting governmental and industry sponsored agreements. Team Leaders will provide leadership for research administration, foster team work, collaboration and demonstrate high commitment to customer service by applying skills and experience to the review and negotiation of research proposals while submitting required materials ahead of sponsor deadlines and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and university regulations and guidelines. Additionally, Team Leaders serve as a supervisor of a team of Research Administrators and provide assistance to upper level administration in the management and operations of the office.
- Master's degree in Public or Business Administration, finance, or related field(s). A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, finance, or related field(s) with significant relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a Master's degree. - Demonstrated research administration experience. - Demonstrated experience and working knowledge of some federal and non-federal regulations and guidelines, cost principles, uniform administrative requirements for grants and audits of states, local governments, and non-profit organizations. - Demonstrated experience in the management and/or negotiation of complex contracts. - Demonstrated leadership and independent initiative.
- Professional designations such as Certified Research Administrator (CRA); Certified Federal Contracts Manager (CFCM); or Certified Public Accountant (CPA). - Virginia Tech Research Administrator Certificate (Level I and II). - Demonstrated training experience in a professional environment.
