- This is a 1 year limited term appointment and is funded from external sources. Continuation of employment is contingent upon availability of funds.** The individual in the position will be responsible for assisting in the routine day-to-day operations of a preparation/support laboratory for the microbiology teaching laboratories. Essential functions include, but are not be limited to: preparation of common reagents/media following general laboratory procedures; inventory control and ordering of supplies; maintenance and handling of viable cultures; preparing complex media with limited direction; interfacing with outside vendors and service providers and the general up-keep of instrumentation and equipment to ensure safe operation. In addition, the incumbent will be asked to assist with laboratory instruction and supervision, design of experiments, writing procedures and other such functions designed to improve laboratory operations and provide an effective level of support to the teaching mission of the laboratory.
Entry into the applicant pool requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
Desired qualifications include: an understanding of the biochemical mechanisms of respiration which can help design and run experiments aimed at measuring the respiratory efficiency of birds; additional education above the high school level in Biology or Biochemistry with extensive experience in research; experience publishing peer-reviewed articles.
