Job Description
Our Cambridge Tech Ops team is looking for people with a minimum of 2-3 years of hands-on lab experience who will provide network & systems troubleshooting support with a focus area in one or more of these areas: network support, *nix , or programming fundamentals.

TechOps Engineers at VMware assist in maintaining various R&D test beds, which are comprised of hosts, SAN and networking hardware, all while using VMware virtualization software. These engineers work on a North American team, as well as across the globe on various IT related tasks.

Responsibilities:

- Assist in managing test beds and equipment deployments from start to finish including racking all varieties of hardware, cabling, OS installation, firmware upgrades and LUN presentation

- Help maintain regional VMware R&D site infrastructures, including participating in network upgrades, office moves, and writing thorough documentation

- Meet ticketing SLA’s for the region

- Recommend solutions in response to engineering support requests and for improving internal processes and procedures

- Participate in beta testing of VMware Software

- Work with team to install upgrade and maintain local site infrastructure VM’s and services (DHCP, DNS, proxies, etc.)

- Use monitoring and lab tools to manage lab resources, including power, environmental, and asset management

- Follow pre-defined processes and design or collaborate on new ones

- Work independently with minimal guidance on day to day tasks

- Dedication to excellent customer service in the face of challenging requirements

- BS in CS/EE/Math preferred or equivalent experience

Basic Qualifications:

- Minimum 2-3 years of relevant industry experience, preferably supporting an Engineering environment

- Multiple years of experience with some or all of the following technologies: Systems Administration (Linux/Windows), Networking (LAN, WAN), Storage, and Virtualization

- Ability to support and troubleshoot networking protocols and services such as LAN, WAN, VPN, DNS, DHCP, NIS, NFS, TCP, UDP, ICMP, PXE

- Proven technical troubleshooting and performance tuning

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English

- Excellent teamwork skills

- Able and willing to travel domestically or internationally as needed

- Able to lift 50+ lbs

Nice to Haves:

- vSphere Administration experience

- Experience with Cisco networking hardware

- Basic scripting experience with PERL

- Relevant technical certifications (MCSE, CCNA, VCP, etc.)

- BS in CS/EE/Math preferred or equivalent experience
