A technical intern is a temporarily employed full-time college student in an two-year institution of higher learning, who is offered a work-study program designed to give college students practical work experience in their field of study. This program often helps students determine career interests. Beyond the scope of the actual tasks performed, the student becomes familiar with a corporate environment and gains practical skills and knowledge to supplement their classroom experience.

While working at PPL Interstate Energy Company (IEC), the intern will specifically be responsible for a variety of tasks involving troubleshooting, testing, maintaining, installing and repairing transmission facilities for natural gas and petroleum projects. The position will ensure the safe and efficient operation of all pipeline, station, terminal and M&R equipment.
- Meeting senior executives,
- Becoming members of business resource groups,
- Participating in community service projects, and
- Contributing to departmental goals
Assist with inspection and repairs of electronic equipment
Support the installation, operation, and maintenance of Cathodic Protection System in accordance with the Department of Transportation
Perform scheduled mainline valve maintenance per company procedures and pipeline regulations
Help to assure all equipment is in compliance with appropriate regulations and help to assure all work is performed in a safe, efficient manner in accordance with applicable regulations
Update, maintain and revise drawings as needed
Assist in new construction activities by providing documentation such as drawings and installation records
Candidates must meet the basic qualifications to receive consideration.
Enrolled in 2-year tech and trade school program or equivalent.
Enrolled on a full-time basis (12 semester hours). Students may not continue as an Intern/Co-operative Associate once they have graduated.
Have an acceptable overall grade point average.
Eligible to work in accordance with Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services (BCIS) regulations.
18 years of age or older.
Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
Demonstrated leadership abilities.
