Technical Sales Representative
This position is primarily responsible for developing and executing a sales strategy for EV’s. This person will identify and pursue sales leads and leverage corporate resources to develop sales and marketing approaches, materials proposals and cross functional teaming arrangements. The technical sales representative will participate in goal setting, local business sales growth, develop sales metrics and track and provide analysis and reports and work directly with the Regionals Sales Director.
Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities (*identifies Essential Functions)
Lead the effort in gathering data on competitors in order to analyze their prices, sales and methods of operation.
Research and analyze customer information, product and service preferences, market size, penetration, marketing practices and trends. Compile findings and compile short- and long-term forecasts and develop marketing plans aimed at willing new business in conjunction with the Sales and Marketing department.
Develop and periodically update sales strategy for EV’s and perform SWOT analysis.
Attend industry conferences/trade shows and identify potential customers as directed.
Identify new customers by leveraging industry contacts, networking and customer site visits.
Assist with customer relationship management and serve as customer advocate.
Gain understanding of EV’s and differentiate from competitors.
Develop sufficient technical understanding of Proterra’s product, industry standards and government regulations to adequately communicate our portfolio to existing and prospective customers.
Develop sales and revenue metrics to best quantify the sales situation. Perform analysis of the data to identify opportunities and to direct future efforts. Prepare monthly reports.
Develop forecasts for order book and revenue.
Prepare trip reports summarizing meeting outcomes/recommendations.
Increase sales opportunities and grow annual revenue.
Formulate value propositions and position new business and capabilities.
Interact with all level of individuals within the industry, from working level engineers to buyers to executives.
Participate in contract negotiations as directed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
5+ years in transit industry experience with 3+ years in business development, sales or strategic planning.
Bachelor’s degree in business administration or engineering preferred.
Strong planning, organizational and analytical skills.
Demonstrated experience translating data/analysis into insights and decisions for purposes of making recommendations that stand up to scrutiny.
Strong negotiation, conflict resolution and customer service skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
