Ke`aki Technologies has an exciting opportunity for a Technical Writer . This position requires strong writing skills that can be applied to our proposal process with the emphasis being strong writing skills . The successful candidate will be responsible for technical writing efforts of one or more contract teams. This will include documentation from all areas of the Software Development Lifecycle. The ideal candidate will have experience documenting efforts utilizing JAVA/J2EE technologies and frameworks and/or Oracle Databases. The position will be focusing on the Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application – Theater (AHLTA-T) and will be located in the Herndon / Falls Church, Virginia area. The position requires U.S. Citizenship, a favorable National Agency Check (NAC), and a signed confidentiality agreement.

Research, Analyze, write and edit system technical documentation for a web-based Department of Defense application in accordance with established organizational standards; Technical products include but are not limited to:

Analysis of Alternatives (AoA)

Concept of Operations (CONOPS)

Requirements Traceability Matrix (RTM)

System Requirements Specification (SRS)

System Design Description (SDD)

Database Design Description (DBDD)

Interface Control Document (ICD)

System Security Authorization Agreement (SSAA)

System User Manual (SUM)

System Administrator Manual (SAM)

Software Version Description (SVD)

Functional Configuration Audit (FCA)

Software Test Report (STR)

Collaborates with all project teams to determine the need for documentation revisions, and accordingly updates all technical documentation as needed; maintains records and files of all documentation revisions (i.e., exercises version control).

Organizes, manages and maintains the project documentation library in accordance with established standards (may require managing and maintaining two parallel libraries to satisfy both customer and corporate requirements).

Organize material and complete writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.

Maintain records and files of work and revisions.

Edit, standardize, or make changes to material prepared by other writers or establishment personnel.

Confer with customer representatives, technical staff , program leadership, or subject-matter-experts to establish technical specifications and to determine subject material to be developed for production.

Review published materials and recommend revisions or changes in scope, format, and content.

Select photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate technical material.

Getting Information -- Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources.

Keeping up-to-date technically and applying new knowledge to job responsibilities.

Developing, designing, or creating new applications, ideas, relationships, systems, or products, including artistic contributions. Under minimal supervision, writes and/or edits technical documents, including business proposals, reports, manuals, briefings and presentations, guidelines, and other project deliverables to meet contract requirements.

Reviews and edits documents developed by others to ensure accuracy and quality of content, organization, language, format consistency, and conformance with established standards; works with technical staff to develop documentation requirements; develops outlines and drafts for review and approval by technical specialists and project management; and ensures that final documents meet applicable contract requirements and regulations.

Researches and gathers technical and background information for inclusion in project documentation and deliverables.

Consults relevant information sources, including library resources, technical and financial documents, and client and project personnel, to obtain background information, and verifies pertinent guidelines and regulations governing project deliverables.

Perform other duties as assigned.

BA/BS Degree in a related field, or equivalent training and/or experience

5 + years’ of related experience performing technical writing, research, and editing functions to prepare briefings, manuals, and other contract deliverables to meet contract requirements and respond to requests for information.

At least three (3) years experience creating software lifecycle documentation, preferably with substantial experience in the DoD software development environment.

Proficient with Microsoft Products (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio; working knowledge of MS Project helpful but not required).

Functional experience in at least one electronic documentation management system, such as Microsoft SharePoint.

Knowledge of IEEE Specifications.

Strong writing ability. This includes knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.

Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods. This includes alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual media.

Communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience.

Excellent time management skills.

Understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.

Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.

The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing and the ability to communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand.

Must be a U.S. Citizen
