Performs maintenance, calibration, and repair of various equipment which may include fixed and portable gas monitoring systems, emergency lighting and air movement / ventilation equipment. Maintains hand-held and confined space radio communication equipment.


Ability to read, write and comprehend English (operational, manufacturer’s manuals, wiring guides, schematics, diagrams and blueprints, safety and quality instructions).

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Second language is a plus.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

High School diploma or GED and associates degree, technical or military training strongly preferred.

Knowledge of electronics and electrical principles.

Experience with electronic test equipment (DVM, amp probe, oscilloscope, signal generator, etc.)

Ability to read, interpret and record data from meters, gauges, panels, computer consoles and other equipment.

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Ability to use RentalMan or similar AS400 mainframe based computer system.

Ability to diagnose basic problems, troubleshoot equipment and take corrective action within established guidelines.

Valid driver's license from state of residence and valid proof of vehicle insurance. Must possess good driving record and be insurable for Total Safety vehicle insurance while driving company truck.

Proficiency in the care and use of all site specific, facility and customer required Personal Protection Equipment (PPE). Trained in Respiratory Protection and fully certified to wear respiratory breathing equipment (Fit Tested).

Be willing travel to customers site and available for travel for short and long-term out-of-town or offshore projects.

Must demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily.

Employee Orientation. Equipment Manufacturers’ training and certification. OJT in Portable Electronics Equipment Maintenance and Calibration and in hand-held radios.

All other training if interested in advancing to E&I Tech II.

Performs some advanced functions and may cross-train for other functions as part of training and development.

Learning Curve: How much time is required to effectively perform the job? 9 -12 months


E – 40% - Performs maintenance, repair, cleaning and sensor change-outs on various types of equipment which may include fixed and portable gas monitoring systems, emergency lighting and air movement / ventilation equipment. Returns monitoring equipment to active status within established time frame.

E – 15% - Performs routine calibration procedures on portable and fixed gas monitors.

E – 10% - Learns to service and repair hand-held and confined space radio communications equipment.

E – 15% - Completes all documentation associated with service in a timely and accurate manner and obtains signature from customer if necessary so that proper invoicing and documentation can be provided to customer. This includes all inspection and repair documents, job cost billable expenses and time sheets.

E – 15% - Assists others in facility including stocking shelves with clean, tested and ready to use equipment and pulling, staging and loading customer orders onto trucks for delivery. Maintains work area and other areas in a clean and orderly condition.

E – 5% - Performs basic maintenance and care of assigned vehicle and/or trailer.


Assists others as needed.


Nature of Supervisory Responsibility: No Supervisory responsibility, but may assist less experienced staff.

Degree of supervision received or the degree of autonomy given: The degree to which supervisor outlines the methods to be followed or results to be obtained and checks work or progress.

Works under direct supervision: Specific instructions are given on assignments or follows written or verbal instructions and established procedures and standard practice to perform assigned tasks.

Salary is commensurate with experience. This is an exempt managerial position and is therefore not subject to overtime.

A voluntary program of group term life insurance (and AD&D) is also available to all employees. The employee pays the entire cost of this coverage, if selected. The company pays for all administrative costs under the 401(k) Retirement Plan.
