Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM), Institute for Biogenesis Research (IBR), located in Honolulu, Hawaii. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.


DUTIES: Conducts research as a part of a working team in a laboratory focusing on the regulation of telomerase in mammalian cells, including stem cells. Responsible for cellular re-programming studies involving mammalian cells. Responsible for cell and molecular analysis of telomerase and telomerase-regulating events in rodent and human cells. Performs experiments on lab animals (mice) after obtaining the necessary training skills and certification. Trains and oversees Graduate Assistants and volunteers to perform experiments. Orders supplies for experiments. Manages general lab organization and maintenance. Assists the Principal Investigator (PI) in preparing manuscripts and presentations to make the scientific community and public aware of project results.

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in a Biological Science field. EXPERIENCE: At least one (1) year of experience working with mammalian cells (i.e., cell cultures and manipulation) and telomerase in a research laboratory. Experience must include, communicating and negotiating with faculty, research staff, and/or university personnel to achieve research objective(s). ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS: Working knowledge of general principles of biological and biochemical subjects. Proficient knowledge of common PC software for word processing (e.g., WordPerfect or Word), and database/ spreadsheet (e.g., Excel). Able to communicate well both orally and in writing. Able to use common PC computer software for word processing (e.g., WordPerfect or Word), and database/spreadsheet (e.g., Excel). Must be able to organize PowerPoint presentations. PHYSICAL/MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS: Able to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds.

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS: At least three (3) years of experience working in a research laboratory performing cell and molecular biological procedures.
